Uniden 1711 / 1721 / 1731 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BBTY0405001)

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Uniden cordless phone handsets including the 1711, 1721, 1731, and 1733 models. It replaces OEM part BBTY0405001 and fits directly into the handset battery compartment. If your handset dies mid-call or won't hold a charge between cradle sits, this is the part that fixes it.

  • 1711 / 1721 / 1731 / 1733 compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.6V Ni-MH chemistry, and connector orientation. The base station charges at a voltage profile matched to this cell type — swapping in a Li-ion pack here would trigger a charging fault. Stick to Ni-MH.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the 1711 handset platform. The BMS accepted the pack without error lights, and the base station initiated trickle charge correctly after the initial full charge cycle.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base cradle for a full 16 hours before use. Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state — a slow first charge lets the cells reach rated 2000mAh capacity. Cutting this short means the first several cycles will feel short.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells don't hit rated capacity straight out of the box. For the first three to five charge-discharge cycles, the chemistry is still activating and the cells will underperform. This is normal — it is not a fault with the battery. Run the handset until the low-battery tone sounds, then return it to the base for a full charge each time. By cycle five, capacity should be at or near the rated 2000mAh.

Base station shows no-charge or error light with the new pack installed

Ni-MH batteries stored in a warehouse can self-discharge to a voltage below what the base station's charge controller recognises as a valid pack — typically under 3.0V. The base sees this as an absent or faulty cell and withholds charging current. Remove the battery, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then reseat it firmly in the handset and return it to the base. If the error persists, check that the handset contacts are clean and the handset is fully seated — a slight tilt on the cradle breaks the charge circuit.

My Uniden 1711 handset loses range and drops calls near the edges of the house — could the new battery be causing this?

Yes — NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load, and a new pack that hasn't been fully conditioned will sag more than a broken-in one. The handset's transmit power drops when battery voltage falls below around 3.2V, which cuts effective range. Run three to five full discharge-charge cycles first and the sag will reduce as the cells reach rated capacity. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the battery contacts on the handset are clean and making firm contact.

My Uniden cordless handset lost its pairing to the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery from a DECT handset cuts all power to the memory that holds the base pairing. This is a known behaviour on the 1711 series, not a fault with the replacement pack. Re-register the handset from the base station menu — on most Uniden DECT models this is done by holding the Find Handset button on the base for five seconds while the handset is powered on. Once re-paired, the handset will operate normally.

The handset battery is nearly dead every morning even though I put it on the base each night — is the new battery faulty?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a cell fault. If the handset sits even slightly off-centre in the cradle, the charge contacts don't complete the circuit and the battery drains overnight on standby draw instead of topping up. Press the handset firmly into the base until it clicks into position and check that the charge indicator light on the base illuminates. If the light doesn't come on when seated, clean the metal contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth and reseat.
