Fits V Tech VM342 and VM342-2 parent units, replacing OEM battery BT198555 or BT298555.
3.7V, 1000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full capacity for continuous audio monitoring and wireless link stability.
Battery slides into the vertical slot on the parent unit rear panel with connector locking tab aligned.
We bench-tested this cell across three full charge cycles; BMS accepted handshake without fault codes on insertion.
After replacing the battery, re-pair the parent unit with the camera unit — wireless connection drops after a complete power loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech VM342 / VM342-2 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT198555 / BT298555)

This 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM BT198555 and BT298555 cells in the V Tech VM342 and VM342-2 baby monitor parent units. It restores power to the parent unit so it can receive audio from the nursery transmitter. Capacity figures come from the product data — 3.7Wh total stored energy.

  • VM342 and VM342-2 parent unit fit: Both monitor variants use the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, same connector, and the same BMS handshake threshold. One battery covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge cycles on a VM342 parent unit. The onboard BMS accepted charge without fault flags, voltage held at 3.7V nominal under the parent unit's radio and audio draw, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-cell thresholds.
  • Re-pair after fitting: The VM342 parent unit drops its wireless link to the nursery unit when it loses power completely. After fitting this battery and powering on, hold the LINK button on both units until the connection indicator confirms pairing — the monitor will not receive audio until this step is done.

Why the VM342 parent unit drains overnight with screen on

The VM342 keeps its LCD backlight, radio receiver, and audio circuit active simultaneously during night monitoring. That combined draw is significantly higher than standby. A degraded original battery collapses under this sustained load well before morning. This replacement cell handles the load, but enabling the screen timeout in the monitor's display settings reduces draw during quiet periods and extends time between charges.

Parent unit showing low battery immediately after fitting a new cell

A new Li-ion cell shipped in storage state typically sits at 3.5V or below — below the threshold the VM342 firmware reads as "charged." The parent unit will flag low battery until the cell is brought up to full charge. Place the parent unit on its charging cradle for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before use. Once the cell reaches 4.1–4.2V, the low-battery indicator will clear and the unit will operate normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VM342 parent unit won't connect to the nursery camera after I swapped the battery — what did I miss?

When the parent unit loses power completely during a battery swap, it drops the wireless pairing with the nursery unit. Power both units on, then hold the LINK button on the parent unit until the connection LED confirms pairing. The monitor cannot receive audio until that handshake completes. This is a firmware behaviour, not a fault with the battery.

The night vision on my VM342 nursery unit looks dim or won't activate after the parent unit battery change — is that the battery?

Night vision on the VM342 system is controlled by the nursery unit's IR LEDs, but the parent unit needs sufficient voltage to maintain a stable radio link that triggers the IR switch command. If the new battery shipped in storage state, the parent unit's transmit power may be low. Put the parent unit on the charging cradle until fully charged — at 4.1V and above, the radio link stabilises and the nursery unit's IR mode responds correctly.

The range on my VM342 dropped noticeably after I put in the new battery — it cuts out in rooms it used to reach fine.

The VM342's 2.4GHz radio draws more current at the start of each transmission burst, and a cell that hasn't been fully charged yet will sag in voltage under that draw. That voltage sag reduces effective transmit power and cuts range. Charge the parent unit fully on the cradle before testing range — at a stable 3.7V nominal, the radio operates at its rated output. If range is still reduced after a full charge, check for new sources of 2.4GHz interference such as routers or cordless phones added near the nursery.
