Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Verathon BladderScan 9400 / BVI 9400 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (0400-0066)
This 11.1V, 5000mAh (55.5Wh) lithium-ion battery replaces OEM part numbers 0400-0066, 0400-0121, and 0570-0066 in the Verathon BladderScan 9400 and BVI 9400 portable ultrasound units. These devices are used in hospitals, clinics, and care facilities for non-invasive bladder volume measurement. The battery matches the OEM voltage rail and connector spec exactly.
- BladderScan 9400 and BVI 9400 compatibility: Both models share the same 11.1V three-cell Li-ion pack architecture, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — which is why the same OEM part number covers both units. Swapping between them is a direct electrical match.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the BladderScan platform. The BMS handshake cleared on first boot, the charge IC accepted the pack without fault, and the unit completed its power-on self-test without interruption.
- Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, let the device complete its full power-on self-test cycle before use. Medical devices run BMS verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a false battery fault that can persist until the next clean reboot.
BladderScan 9400 not completing boot sequence on new battery
The 9400's boot sequence includes an active BMS verification step that checks cell voltage, internal resistance, and chemistry signature before allowing the unit to reach the scan-ready state. A new cell that has partially self-discharged in storage can present a voltage reading just below the BMS acceptance threshold, causing the boot to stall or loop. This is not a faulty battery — it is the device's firmware rejecting an unverified pack. Charge the battery to full on the OEM charger first, then reinsert and allow the boot sequence to run without interruption.
Charge indicator stuck below 100% on first charge after swap
The BladderScan charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first encounters a new cell, treating it as uncharacterised until one full charge-discharge cycle is logged. This means the indicator may plateau at 90–95% and stop climbing on the initial charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle — charge to termination, use the device until low-battery warning activates, then recharge fully. After that cycle, the charge IC recalibrates its endpoint and the indicator will reach 100% on subsequent charges.

Frequently Asked Questions
The BladderScan 9400 is alarming low battery straight after a confirmed full charge — why?
The device's BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a known OEM cell chemistry profile. A new replacement cell needs one complete charge-discharge cycle before the BMS recognises it as fully calibrated — until then, it can read state-of-charge conservatively and trigger the alarm even at high capacity. Run one full cycle: charge to termination, use the unit until the low-battery alert activates naturally, then recharge fully. After that cycle, the alarm threshold calibrates correctly against the new cell.
The BladderScan 9400 shuts off unexpectedly mid-scan even though the battery showed adequate charge beforehand.
The 9400's ultrasound transducer draws a sharp current spike at the moment of scan initiation. In the first 5–10 cycles on a new cell, internal resistance is slightly elevated, which causes a brief voltage sag under that load spike — enough to trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff. This resolves as the cell conditions through normal use cycles. Until then, ensure the battery is fully charged before each session, and avoid starting a scan when the indicator is below roughly 30%.
The BladderScan 9400 will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat unused for several weeks.
Extended storage allows Li-ion cells to self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold — at that point the device's protection circuit blocks power output entirely to prevent damage to the cell. Connect the battery to the OEM charger and leave it on charge for a minimum of two hours without attempting to power the device on. Once the cell voltage recovers above the BMS re-enable threshold (typically around 9V for an 11.1V three-cell pack), the unit will power on normally.
