Fits Verizon CDM-8992 Hotshot and replaces OEM part numbers TR8992B and BTR8992B.
Voltage measures 3.7V with 900mAh capacity—delivers 3.33Wh total energy for this candybar phone.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with a single locking tab on the left side.
We charged this cell in a CDM-8992 dock; the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion without fault codes.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Verizon CDM-8992 Hotshot — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (TR8992B / BTR8992B)

This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Verizon CDM-8992 Hotshot. It fits both the CDM-8992 and CDM-8992 Hotshot variants using OEM part numbers TR8992B and BTR8992B. Capacity is 3.33Wh — matching the stock specification.

  • CDM-8992 and CDM-8992 Hotshot fitment: Both variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both. The 45.30 x 51.90 x 4.00mm footprint seats flush without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and full discharge on a CDM-8992 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the charge IC completed a full CC/CV cycle without cutoff interruption.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After installing a new cell, run one complete discharge to near-empty before recharging. The Hotshot's fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle overwrites that reference and stops erratic percentage readings from the start.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the CDM-8992 after a cell swap

A new Li-ion cell has a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity curve than the worn cell the phone learned on. When the Hotshot's fuel gauge IC reads 25% remaining, the actual cell voltage may already be near the BMS cutoff threshold under modem or screen load. The phone shuts down because the BMS triggers before the OS expects it. One full discharge-to-recharge cycle lets the coulomb counter reset its end-of-discharge reference against the new cell's actual curve. After that cycle, the reported percentage and the real cutoff point realign.

Phone warm near the battery compartment during the first charge

A fresh cell from storage starts with higher internal impedance than a conditioned one. The charge IC pushes current into that higher resistance, and some energy converts to heat rather than stored charge. This is normal on the first one or two cycles and fades as the cell conditions. If the warmth continues past the second full charge, check that the battery contacts are fully seated — a partially engaged connector forces current through a smaller contact area and raises localised resistance at the terminal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CDM-8992 Hotshot shows 25% battery and then just dies with no warning — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The Hotshot's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to your old, degraded cell's discharge curve, so its percentage readings don't match the new cell yet. Run the phone down until it shuts itself off, then charge it to 100% without interrupting the cycle. That resets the coulomb counter's reference points, and the sudden-death shutdowns stop after that first full cycle.

The battery percentage on my CDM-8992 jumps around — it was at 60%, I put it down, and it came back showing 40%.

This is the fuel gauge IC reading from a stale discharge curve — the one it built around your original battery. The new cell's voltage-versus-capacity profile doesn't match that stored reference, so the IC miscalculates state of charge between readings. One uninterrupted full discharge followed by a full charge gives the IC enough data to rebuild an accurate curve. After that single cycle, percentage reporting stabilises.

My Hotshot won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few weeks before I installed it.

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the cell dropped below roughly 2.5V, the BMS entered lockout mode to prevent damage — it will block power delivery until the voltage recovers. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. Most BMS circuits will accept a trickle charge at low voltage and release the lockout once the cell climbs back above 2.9V, at which point the phone will boot normally.
