Fits Alcatel OT-980, OT-980A, OT-981, OT-981A and replaces OT-BY70, CAB3170000C1, CAB31LL0000C1 battery part numbers.
3.7V, 1000mAh lithium-ion cell restores talk and standby time on degraded original packs.
Connector slides straight into the OT-980 slot with no locking tab — seats flush against the contact plate.
We bench tested this cell on the OT-980 motherboard; the BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle without opening apps — this lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell discharge curve before normal operation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alcatel OT-980 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (OT-BY70)

This is a 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Alcatel OT-980 and OT-981 series smartphones, including the OT-980A and OT-981A. It matches OEM part numbers OT-BY70, CAB3170000C1, and CAB31LL0000C1. Swap this in when the original cell no longer holds charge through a normal day of calls and messaging.

  • OT-980 and OT-981 series compatibility: Both the OT-980 and OT-981 lines share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that is why one cell covers over 40 model variants across the range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on OT-980 hardware. The BMS negotiated correctly with the charge IC, hit the expected 4.2V full-charge cutoff, and held stable voltage under sustained modem and display load.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable any fast-charge mode and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard current. This allows the fuel gauge IC to map the new cell's discharge curve before it tries to calculate state-of-charge accurately.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the OT-980 after a cell swap

This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell. When the new cell's voltage drops under load — during a call or screen-on burst — the IC misreads remaining capacity and triggers a low-voltage shutdown earlier than the percentage shown. The fix is one full discharge cycle without interruption, letting the coulomb counter reset against real cell data. After that cycle, the reported percentage and actual cutoff voltage should align at around 3.4–3.5V under load.

OT-980 won't power on after sitting in storage for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage. If the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent damage and will refuse to pass current to the phone. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it for 15–20 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell and bring it above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once the cell reaches roughly 3.0V, the BMS releases, the charge IC switches to normal CC/CV charging, and the phone will power on.

Frequently Asked Questions

My OT-980 shows 25% battery and then just shuts off without warning — is this the new battery or the phone?

This is a fuel gauge IC calibration issue, not a fault in the battery or the phone. The IC learned the discharge curve of your old degraded cell and is applying that curve to the new one, so it calls a low-voltage shutdown well before the cell is actually empty. Run one uninterrupted full discharge until the phone shuts itself off, then charge to 100% without disconnecting — after that single cycle the coulomb counter recalibrates and the shutdowns stop.

The OT-980 battery percentage jumps around erratically — it was at 60%, dropped to 40%, then went back up to 55% without charging.

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against a cell whose discharge curve it has not yet mapped. Percentage readings are unstable until the IC has completed at least one full discharge-charge cycle on the new cell. Let the phone discharge fully to auto-shutdown, charge uninterrupted to 100%, and do not interrupt that first cycle. After it completes, the state-of-charge readings stabilise.

The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery compartment during the first few charges after fitting the new cell — is something wrong?

A small amount of heat on the first few charge cycles is normal with a new high-impedance cell. Fresh Li-ion cells have slightly elevated internal resistance until they are cycled a few times, and that resistance converts a small fraction of charge current to heat. If the phone feels hot to the touch or charging stops before 100%, check that the charge IC has not gone into thermal protection — remove the case if you are using one to improve heat dissipation, and charge at standard current rather than any fast-charge mode for the first two cycles.
