Fits Verizon Commando C771 and C771 with OEM battery designation CS-CTR771XL.
3.7V nominal, 1700mAh capacity delivers full runtime on this compact ruggedized phone without aftermarket bulk.
Connector seats flush into the standard slot with single-tab retention; no adapters required for this device.
We ran a full discharge cycle on the lab unit—BMS accepted charge at standard 500mA input, voltage curve tracked clean through 80% capacity.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Verizon Commando C771 — 3.7V Li-ion 1700mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V Li-ion cell at 1700mAh (6.29Wh) built to replace the original battery in the Verizon Commando C771 ruggedized smartphone. The C771 was built for field use — construction sites, public safety, outdoor work — where battery failure means a loss of communication. When the original cell degrades past usable capacity, this replacement restores full operation without swapping the device.

  • Commando C771 fitment: The C771 uses a standard removable battery bay with a direct contact connector — no proprietary BMS handshake is required at the hardware level. The cell drops in and the phone's charge IC takes over immediately on first power-up.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge on the C771 platform. The phone's charge IC accepted the new cell without fault codes, and the BMS held voltage above the 3.0V cutoff threshold through full draw cycles.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the phone's fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes into an uncalibrated state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Commando C771

The C771's modem and screen together create short, high-current draw spikes. An aged or freshly installed cell with an uncalibrated fuel gauge IC cannot sustain voltage under these spikes — the phone reads 25% but the cell voltage drops below the hardware cutoff and the device shuts off. This is a voltage cliff caused by internal resistance in the cell, not a percentage error. After one full discharge-charge cycle, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates and the reported percentage aligns with actual cell capacity. If shutdowns persist past the second cycle, confirm the resting voltage reads above 3.7V on a full charge.

Phone reports wrong battery percentage after cell swap

The fuel gauge IC in the C771 stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. After a cell swap, that stored curve no longer matches the new cell's characteristics — the OS reads from an outdated model and reports inaccurate percentages. The fix is one full uninterrupted discharge from 100% to auto-shutdown, followed by a full charge to 100% at standard rate. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets and percentage tracking stabilises. Do not interrupt this first cycle with top-up charges or the IC will not complete its recalibration pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Commando C771 won't power on at all after sitting in a drawer for months with the new battery installed — what's happening?

The cell likely discharged below 2.5V during storage, triggering BMS lockout — a protection state where the battery refuses to deliver current until it receives a recovery charge. Plug the phone into a wall charger (not a computer USB port, which may not supply enough current) and leave it connected for 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. Most C771 units will show a charging indicator within a few minutes once the BMS exits lockout. If no indicator appears after 45 minutes, check the charge contacts on the battery door for corrosion or debris.

The Commando C771 gets noticeably warm near the battery during the first few charges — is something wrong?

A new Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes harder during the initial constant-current phase — generating more heat than you'd see later. This is normal for the first two to three charge cycles and settles as the cell's impedance drops. Keep the phone out of its case during those first charges so heat can dissipate freely. If the back of the phone becomes too hot to hold comfortably, stop the charge, let it cool to room temperature, and restart — that level of heat is outside the expected range.

Fast charging stopped working after I installed the replacement battery in my C771 — why won't it fast charge anymore?

The C771's charge IC negotiates charge rate based on what the BMS in the new cell accepts on the first handshake. Some replacement cells present a different impedance profile on initial contact, and the charge IC defaults to standard rate as a precaution. Run one full standard-rate charge cycle first — do not use the fast charger for that first cycle. On the second cycle, reconnect the fast charger; the IC renegotiates with the now-characterised cell and typically resumes the higher charge rate. Confirm the charger output is at least 5V/1A before ruling out a charger issue.
