Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GIONEE V188 / V188S — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BL-N5000)

This is a 3.85V, 5000mAh Li-Polymer cell replacing the original BL-N5000 battery in the GIONEE V188 and V188S smartphones. The physical dimensions — 86.93 × 59.85 × 6.48 mm — match the factory cell, so the pouch fits the existing battery bay without modification. Connector polarity and pin layout match the OEM spec.

  • V188 and V188S compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector, and charge IC protocol. The BL-N5000 part number covers both variants — the PCB protection circuit and BMS handshake are identical across the two.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a test rig monitoring BMS cutoff thresholds. The protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage floor and the charge IC accepted a standard CC/CV profile without fault flags.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the charge IC pushes higher current into an uncalibrated cell — otherwise the percentage readout will drift.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the V188 after a cell swap

A new Li-Polymer cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile than the aged cell the fuel gauge IC was calibrated against. Under high-draw loads — active call, screen at full brightness, mobile data — the voltage drops sharply at around 3.6–3.65V even though the gauge still reads 20–30% remaining. The phone's low-voltage shutdown circuit fires before the gauge catches up. One full slow-charge cycle lets the coulomb counter recalibrate, after which the reported percentage and actual cell state align more closely.

USB fast charge not activating on the first cycle after replacement

The V188's charge IC negotiates fast-charge current after reading the BMS data on the new cell. On the first cycle, the BMS may report an uncalibrated state that causes the IC to fall back to standard 5V/1A charging as a precaution. This is not a fault — it clears after one complete charge cycle. If fast charging still does not engage after two full cycles, check that the USB cable supports the required current rating, and verify the charger outputs the correct voltage by measuring at the port.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GIONEE V188 keeps shutting off at around 25% battery after I put in the new BL-N5000 — is something wrong with the cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The fuel gauge IC in the V188 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the old, degraded battery — it no longer matches the new cell's voltage profile. Under modem or screen load, the new cell's voltage dips below the shutdown threshold while the gauge still reads 25%. Run one full slow discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without fast charging enabled — this resets the coulomb counter against the new cell curve.

The battery percentage on my V188 is jumping around randomly after I replaced it — it reads 60%, then suddenly 45%, then back to 55%.

This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating. The internal model it uses to estimate state-of-charge was built around the old cell's impedance and capacity — the new 5000mAh cell presents a different discharge curve, so the IC overshoots and corrects repeatedly. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles at standard charge rate with fast charging off. After the second cycle, the coulomb counter will have enough data points to stabilise the percentage readout.

My V188 feels warm near the battery during the first few charges with the new cell — is the charge IC overworking it?

A new high-capacity Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance on the first few cycles than a broken-in cell. The charge IC delivers the same current it always has, but slightly more of that energy converts to heat across the higher-impedance cell. This normalises after three to five charge cycles as the cell's impedance drops with use. If the device feels hot rather than warm, or the back panel distorts, stop charging immediately and check that the replacement cell dimensions — 86.93 × 59.85 × 6.48 mm — match the installed unit exactly.
