Fits Vertex Standard VXD720 portable radio; replaces OEM battery FNB-V57.
7.5V 1800mAh Li-ion delivers full transmit power on this compact transceiver platform.
Gold contact strip slides into the radio's battery compartment with vertical orientation lock.
Bench testing shows clean BMS handshake on first insertion; no charger dock fault.
On first use, insert the battery and press PTT once — Vertex dock requires single transmit cycle to seat the BMS before normal charging mode activates.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard VXD720 — 7.5V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 7.5V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Vertex Standard VXD720 portable two-way radio. The VXD720 is a compact commercial-grade transceiver used in industrial and field communication roles. Voltage and capacity match the original specification so the radio powers on and charges without modification.

  • VXD720 platform fit: The VXD720 uses a 7.5V three-cell Li-ion configuration with a specific BMS handshake required by the charger dock. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector pinout so the dock accepts the battery and progresses through its charge cycle normally.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit and receive loads matching the VXD720's RF output draw. The BMS held stable under PTT press current spikes and did not trigger overcurrent cutoff during sustained transmission bursts.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The VXD720 charger platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the VXD720 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

A new Li-ion pack ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V to 3.8V per cell, not full charge. When the VXD720 keys up for transmission, current draw spikes sharply. If the pack is at storage voltage, that spike can push cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold, causing the radio to drop out mid-PTT. Charge the pack fully before the first use in the field. After a full charge cycle, the cells stabilise and the BMS handles transmit spikes without interruption.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a fresh pack

The VXD720 reads battery level using voltage-threshold detection, not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower threshold band, so the radio displays one or two bars even though the cell capacity is intact. This is not a faulty battery. Put the pack through one full charge cycle in the dock until the charge LED goes green, then power on the radio — the bar indicator will reflect the correct charge level at or above 7.4V resting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VXD720 drops to weak audio and reduced TX power partway through a shift — is the new battery draining faster than expected?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not rapid capacity loss. As the pack discharges past roughly 7.0V under load, the VXD720 automatically reduces transmit power to stay within its operating window. The audio drop is the radio protecting its RF stage, not a fault with the battery. If it happens early in a shift, check that the pack completed a full charge cycle — the dock LED must have gone green before you pulled it.

The charger dock fault LED came on after I inserted the new battery and it never cleared — what's wrong?

The dock fault LED usually means the pack voltage came in below the dock's acceptance threshold, around 6.0V. A battery that sat in storage for an extended period can drop below this level, and the charger dock will refuse to begin the charge cycle. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, reseat it firmly, and wait 60 seconds. If the fault LED persists, the BMS may need a recovery pulse — try a different known-good dock if one is available, as some Vertex docks have a narrower acceptance window than others.

The VXD720 cuts out completely when I press PTT, but powers back on when I release — what causes that?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike. When PTT is pressed, current draw jumps sharply; if cell impedance is high or the pack is not fully charged, voltage collapses briefly and the BMS opens the protection circuit. The radio loses power instantly and recovers when the load drops. Charge the pack fully to at least 8.2V before field use and check that the dock contacts are clean — a poor contact connection increases effective impedance and makes the trip threshold easier to hit.
