Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wolf Garten 40er Bai Cordless Lawn Mower — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This listing covers a 12V 3000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Wolf Garten 40er Bai cordless lawn mower. It slots into Wolf Garten's 12V battery platform and restores cutting power to a mower that collects clippings as it runs. Voltage and capacity match the original 4057-075 specification exactly.

  • Compatibility — 40er Bai (4057-075): These models share the same 12V voltage rail, connector format, and BMS handshake, so one battery pack covers the full listed range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge/discharge cycles — the BMS held voltage steady under mowing load and tripped the low-voltage cutoff cleanly before cell damage could occur.
  • First charge on Ni-MH: Run two or three full charge/discharge cycles before regular use — Ni-MH cells need conditioning to reach their rated 3000mAh capacity.

Why Ni-MH matters for a 12V lawn mower

Ni-MH chemistry handles the intermittent high-current draw that a mower motor produces better than older Ni-Cd packs. At 3000mAh and 36Wh, this pack sits at the top end of what Wolf Garten's 12V platform supports. Ni-MH also tolerates partial charges better than Ni-Cd, so the mower can be topped up between sessions without triggering memory effect at this capacity level.

Mower won't start after storage — here's what's happening

A Ni-MH pack stored flat for several months can drop below the BMS's minimum detection threshold. The mower's controller sees the pack as absent or faulty and refuses to engage the blade motor. Connect the battery to its charger for a full cycle before testing — most chargers will wake a deeply discharged Ni-MH pack and restore communication with the mower. If the charger shows no response after 30 minutes, the cells have self-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Wolf Garten mower starts fine then just cuts out halfway through the lawn — why does it stop before the battery is dead?

This is a thermal cutoff trigger, not a dead battery. Ni-MH packs at 12V in high-draw cutting tools heat up fast under continuous load, and the protection circuit shuts the motor down before the cells are damaged — even when charge remains. Let the pack cool for 20 minutes with it off the mower, then check resting voltage: it should sit above 13.2V on a full charge. If voltage looks healthy but the cutout keeps happening earlier each session, the cells are losing capacity and the replacement pack will solve it.

The charger light stays solid green but the mower barely moves through thick grass — did the old battery ruin something in the mower?

The mower is almost certainly fine. What you're seeing is voltage sag — the old Ni-MH pack appeared charged but could no longer hold its voltage under real cutting load, so the motor was running starved. A solid green on the charger only confirms the pack accepted a surface charge, not that the cells have usable capacity under draw. Load-test the old pack with a multimeter while the mower is running: if voltage drops below 10.5V under load, the pack is the problem, not the motor.

New replacement battery fitted but the mower is slower than it was when the original was new — is this normal for a replacement?

Ni-MH cells need several full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — this is called conditioning and it's normal for any new pack, not a defect. We see this consistently on the bench: fresh cells often deliver noticeably less torque for the first two or three full cycles. Run the mower until the pack is fully depleted, charge it completely, and repeat that at least twice. If performance is still noticeably weak after three full cycles, check that the terminal contact points on the mower are clean and making solid contact.
