Fits ZTE MF96, MF96U, Z289L, and Z289 hotspots; replaces OEM battery LI3730T42P3h6544A2.
This 3.7V 3400mAh cell delivers 12.58Wh — enough capacity for typical multi-device sharing sessions before recharge.
Connector slides straight into the battery bay with a single locking tab; no adapter required for MF96 platform.
We bench-tested this pack in the MF96 under sustained Wi-Fi broadcast load; the BMS held steady output with no early voltage cutoff.
Keep the hotspot in a well-ventilated location during extended sessions — the cellular radio draws maximum power when devices are far away, generating heat that stresses the battery.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ZTE MF96 / Z289L Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LI3730T42P3h6544A2)

This is a 3.7V 3400mAh Li-ion battery for the ZTE MF96, MF96U, Z289L, and Z289 portable wireless hotspots. It replaces OEM part LI3730T42P3h6544A2 directly. If your hotspot no longer holds a charge or won't power on, this is the cell that needs replacing.

  • MF96 and Z289 series compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V nominal voltage rail, and BMS handshake protocol. The LI3730T42P3h6544A2 part number covers the full variant range — MF96, MF96U, Z289L, and Z289.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery in an MF96 unit with six concurrent Wi-Fi clients active. The BMS held a stable voltage curve through full discharge cycles and triggered a clean low-voltage cutoff without false shutdowns.
  • Ventilation during extended sessions: Keep the hotspot on an open surface when running continuous sessions. When connected devices are far from the unit, the cellular radio transmits at maximum output power — this raises internal temperature and puts direct stress on the cell.

Mobile hotspot disconnecting users mid-session on a new battery

When the MF96 is at maximum client connections, the combined draw of the cellular modem and the Wi-Fi radio spikes demand on the battery simultaneously. If the cell can't sustain current under that combined load, voltage sags below the BMS protection threshold and the unit resets — dropping all connected users. A degraded or counterfeit cell shows this behaviour within the first few minutes of peak load. A 3400mAh cell with a healthy internal resistance holds voltage above 3.4V under that load without triggering a cutoff.

MF96 won't power on after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the MF96 sat unused long enough, the battery voltage drops below the minimum boot threshold — typically around 3.0V — and the device won't respond to the power button. The BMS locks out the cell to prevent damage from deep discharge. Connect the hotspot to a charger for at least 15–20 minutes before attempting to power it on; the charger bypasses the lockout and begins recovery charging once it detects a minimum voltage above roughly 2.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MF96 battery drains much faster when I'm in an area with weak signal — is something wrong with the replacement cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. In poor signal areas, the ZTE MF96's cellular radio continuously boosts transmit power trying to maintain a connection, drawing significantly more current than it does in strong-signal conditions. This is normal modem behaviour, not a battery fault. To slow drain in weak-signal areas, reduce the number of connected Wi-Fi clients or switch the hotspot to a lower-frequency band if the setting is available in the admin interface.

The MF96 feels noticeably warm on the back after an hour of use — is that a battery issue?

Warmth on the back panel after extended use comes from the cellular modem and the battery discharging under combined radio load, not from a faulty cell. The MF96 has no active cooling, so heat builds when the modem is transmitting at high power. Keep the device face-up on a flat open surface and away from soft materials like beds or bags that trap heat against the battery. If the unit becomes too hot to hold comfortably, that's above normal operating range — move it to a cooler, open location and reduce active client connections.

After I installed the new battery, the MF96 shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after unplugging from charge — what's happening?

A new Li-ion cell sometimes reads inaccurately on the fuel gauge circuit for the first few charge cycles because the device's charge controller hasn't yet calibrated to the new cell's voltage curve. Run the battery from a full charge down to automatic shutdown, then charge it back to 100% without interruption — do this two to three times. After that conditioning sequence, the charge indicator should track the actual remaining capacity accurately.
