Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ZTE Z981 / Imperial Max — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (Li3934T44P8h876744)
This is a 3.85V, 3400mAh Li-Polymer battery for the ZTE Z981, Z988, Imperial Max, Z963U, and related variants. It replaces the original cell when capacity has degraded through normal charge cycling. Voltage and form factor match the OEM spec: 86.00 × 66.30 × 4.10 mm.
- Z981 / Z988 / Imperial Max platform fit: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.85V voltage rail, and BMS connector pinout. The fuel gauge IC on each device communicates with the cell over the same interface, so one cell covers the full compatibility group.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Z981 unit through a full charge and load cycle. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, charge current stepped down correctly at the CV phase, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- First-cycle fuel gauge recalibration: After installation, disable fast charging and complete one full discharge down to auto-shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the coulomb counter a clean reference curve against the new cell before high-current charging sessions begin.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Z981 after a cell swap
The Z981's fuel gauge IC stores a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell with different internal resistance hits a voltage cliff at moderate load — modem transmit bursts or screen-on drain — before the reported percentage reaches zero. The phone interprets the voltage drop as a fault and shuts down even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. One full uncalibrated discharge-to-shutoff cycle lets the IC relearn where the actual cutoff voltage falls on the new cell's curve.
Phone warm near the battery during the first few charges after replacement
A fresh Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a well-cycled one. During the constant-current phase of charging, the charge IC pushes current into a higher-resistance cell, and the difference dissipates as heat. This is normal for the first three to five cycles and decreases as impedance settles. If the phone stays hot past cycle five or the charge IC throttles to trickle without reaching full capacity, check that the replacement cell contacts are fully seated and that no debris is on the connector — poor contact increases resistance further and compounds the heating.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Z981 powers off at around 25% battery — why does this keep happening after I put in a new cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the Z981 is calibrated to the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell — it does not automatically adjust for a new one. When the new cell's voltage drops sharply under load (modem, screen, GPS), the phone hits the hardware cutoff before the percentage counter reaches zero. Run one complete discharge to auto-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% without fast charging enabled, and the coulomb counter will relearn the correct curve.
The Z981 is showing a battery percentage that jumps around erratically — 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes.
Erratic percentage jumps happen because the fuel gauge IC is interpolating against a stored curve that no longer matches the new cell's actual impedance profile. The coulomb counter loses tracking accuracy mid-cycle until it has a full reference discharge. Disable fast charging, let the phone drain completely to shutoff, then charge to 100% in one go — after that cycle the percentage should stabilise and track smoothly.
Fast charging stopped working on my Z981 right after I replaced the battery — the phone only trickle charges now.
On the first cycle with a new cell, the charge IC can default to a conservative trickle rate because it has not yet profiled the replacement cell's impedance. This is a BMS-side safety hold, not a fault with the cell itself. Complete one full standard charge to 100% without interruption, then reboot the phone and reconnect the charger — fast charge negotiation typically resumes on the second cycle once the IC has a baseline reading.
