Fits CPS CP228 ARC Edge portable radio; replaces OEM battery part number CP28.
3.7V, 1100mAh lithium-ion cell delivers four hours of mixed duty cycle per charge on this radio platform.
Connector slides straight into the radio battery slot with a single locking tab on the left side.
We bench-tested this cell in a CP228 charger dock; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion with no fault LED.
On first use, if the charger dock shows a fault light, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reinserting — the CPS platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CPS CP228 ARC Edge — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CP28)

This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the CPS CP228 ARC Edge portable two-way radio. Part number CP28 matches the original pack spec and connector layout. It fits the CP228 ARC Edge directly, with no modification required.

  • CP228 ARC Edge fit: The CP228 ARC Edge runs a single-cell Li-ion pack at 3.7V nominal. This battery matches that voltage rail and uses the same contact arrangement, so the radio's BMS handshake initialises on first insertion without throwing a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and transmit-load sequences on the bench. The BMS held the cutoff threshold correctly under PTT transmit current spikes and recovered charge termination cleanly at full voltage.
  • Contact strip on first dock insertion: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The CP228 ARC Edge charging dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the CP228 ARC Edge cuts out mid-transmission on a new CP28 battery

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6V to 3.65V, not full charge. When PTT is pressed, transmit current spikes hard and fast. If the cell is at storage voltage, that spike can push the BMS over its overcurrent threshold and trigger a momentary cutout before the radio recovers. This is not a faulty pack. Charge the battery fully before first use in the field and the BMS will handle transmit spikes correctly from that point forward.

CP228 ARC Edge showing one fewer signal bar than expected on a fresh CP28

The CP228 ARC Edge reads battery level from voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits close to the threshold between two bar levels, so the indicator can display one bar lower than the actual charge state. This is a voltage-threshold display behaviour, not a capacity fault. Charge the pack fully — at 4.2V the bar indicator will reflect the correct level.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CP228 ARC Edge radio cuts out every time I press PTT on the new battery — is the pack faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent response to the transmit current spike, not a faulty pack. New Li-ion cells arrive at storage voltage, and at that level the spike from pressing PTT can hit the BMS cutoff threshold. Charge the CP28 fully before first use and the cutout will stop. A full charge brings the cell to 4.2V, which gives the BMS enough headroom to handle the transmit load cleanly.

The charger dock is showing a fault LED after I inserted the new CP28 — it never clears no matter how long I leave it.

A fault LED that never clears usually means the dock didn't complete the BMS handshake on insertion. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly until it clicks. If the fault LED persists, the cell may be below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold from extended storage — connect the dock to power, reseat the pack, and wait up to five minutes for the dock to begin the recovery charge cycle.

The CP228 ARC Edge is transmitting at noticeably lower power mid-shift even though the battery indicator still shows bars — what's happening?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the cell depletes, internal impedance rises and voltage drops under the sustained current draw of repeated transmissions. The bar indicator uses wide voltage thresholds and won't drop a bar until voltage falls further, so the display lags behind actual cell condition. The radio's TX power circuit responds to real-time voltage, not the bar display — what you're seeing is normal cell behaviour as charge decreases. Swap to a fresh charged pack when TX performance drops noticeably mid-shift.
