Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Albrecht Tectalk Outdoor — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CB28)
This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion battery for the Albrecht Tectalk Outdoor two-way radio. It replaces OEM part number CB28 and fits the Tectalk Outdoor handset directly. At 53.00 × 33.90 × 5.70mm, the pack matches the original form factor and connector orientation.
- Tectalk Outdoor fit: The Tectalk Outdoor runs a single-cell 3.7V rail with a low-profile flat pack format. This battery matches that rail voltage and connector position so no adapter or modification is needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through PTT transmit loads on the bench. The BMS held stable under the current spike at key-up and recovered voltage cleanly on release — no false cutoff was triggered during repeated transmit bursts.
- Contact strip condition at first insertion: If the charger shows a fault or blink on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. The Tectalk Outdoor charger dock requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before charge current begins.
Why the Tectalk Outdoor cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted CB28
A new Li-ion cell ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V, not a full charge. When the radio keys up, the transmit current spike briefly pulls cell voltage below the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold. The BMS trips and drops the pack offline, cutting audio mid-transmission. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the pack fully before the first use and the cutoff threshold will have adequate headroom during TX.
Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after fitting the CB28
The Tectalk Outdoor uses a voltage-threshold bar display — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits in the second-highest band, so the display shows one bar short of full even though nothing is wrong with the cell. Charge the battery fully in the dock until the charge LED goes solid green, then reinsert — the indicator will read correctly at that point, typically at or above 4.1V resting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Tectalk Outdoor charger dock blinks a fault LED the moment I insert the new CB28 — what's causing it?
The dock's acceptance circuit checks for a minimum voltage before allowing charge current to flow. A new CB28 at storage voltage can sit just below that threshold if the cell has self-discharged during transit. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly — a dirty or intermittent contact causes the same fault blink. If the LED still blinks after reseating, leave the pack in the dock for 10 minutes; most chargers will begin a recovery pre-charge once the BMS registers a stable connection above 3.0V.
My Tectalk Outdoor drops to noticeably weaker audio output partway through a long transmission — is the battery sagging?
Yes — this is voltage sag under sustained RF load. During a long PTT hold, the transmitter draws continuous current and cell voltage dips. If the radio's internal regulator sees voltage fall below its TX power threshold, it reduces output to protect the circuit. This is normal behaviour on a single-cell 3.7V pack under prolonged transmit. Keep transmissions to reasonable bursts and allow a few seconds between long calls — this lets the cell voltage recover and keeps the radio at full TX power output.
The CB28 has been sitting in a drawer unused for several months and the radio won't switch on — is the pack recoverable?
Extended storage without a top-up charge can allow a Li-ion cell to drop below the BMS re-initialisation threshold, around 2.5–3.0V. When voltage falls that low, the BMS locks out to prevent damage and the radio shows no sign of life. Place the pack in the Tectalk Outdoor dock and leave it undisturbed for at least 15–20 minutes — the charger will attempt a low-current pre-charge to bring the cell back above the recovery threshold. If the dock LED transitions from fault to charge within that window, the pack is recovering; charge it fully before use.
