Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell Scanpal EDA50K — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BATT-EDA40-1)
This is a 3.8V, 4000mAh Li-Polymer battery that replaces the original pack in the Honeywell Scanpal EDA50K handheld barcode scanner. It also fits the EDA40, EDA50, and EDA50hc. OEM part numbers BATT-EDA40-1, BAT-EDA50, BAT-EDA50US, 50134176-001, and 50129589-001 all reference this same cell configuration.
- EDA40 / EDA50 / EDA50K / EDA50hc platform compatibility: These scanners share a common battery bay geometry, contact layout, and BMS handshake protocol. The 3.8V nominal rail and Li-Polymer cell format are consistent across all listed models, so one pack covers the full EDA family listed here.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the EDA50K platform. The BMS handshook cleanly on first contact, charge acceptance was normal from the dock, and the protection circuit responded correctly at both undervoltage and overvoltage thresholds.
- First-shift preparation for pick-and-pack operations: Place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first active shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips when scan burst frequency is highest at shift start.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
The EDA50K charging dock reads battery state through four gold contact pins on the pack face. If even one pin has surface oxidation, adhesive residue from packaging, or is slightly misaligned in the bay, the cradle reports a charge fault instead of initiating the charge cycle. This is a contact resistance issue, not a cell fault. Wipe the pack contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly until the bay latch clicks, and confirm the charge indicator activates within 30 seconds.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During high-frequency scan bursts, the EDA50K draws simultaneously from the imager, the Wi-Fi radio, and the CPU processing the decoded data. Combined inrush from all three subsystems can cause a momentary voltage sag on a degraded or deeply discharged cell. The BMS interprets this sag as an undervoltage event and throttles output, which drops the wireless link before the cell actually reaches cutoff. Charge the pack to at least 3.9V per cell before a high-throughput shift to keep the voltage rail stable under combined load.

Frequently Asked Questions
The EDA50K imager lights up but won't read any barcodes after I swapped the battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a stable voltage above a minimum threshold to fire at full power. A new pack that hasn't been charged from the dock yet may have dropped below that level in storage, giving you enough power to light the LED but not enough to complete a clean decode. Place the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before scanning. Once the pack reads 4.2V at full charge, scan performance returns to normal.
My shift is ending earlier than it did with the old battery — the new pack seems to drain faster than expected.
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both pull from the same cell simultaneously on the EDA50K. If your operation has increased scan frequency or moved to a denser Wi-Fi environment since the original pack was new, the combined draw is higher than the baseline the original battery aged against — not a fault with the new cell. Check Wi-Fi channel congestion on your access points and reduce unnecessary polling intervals in your middleware settings to bring combined draw back in line.
The scanner gets noticeably warm after a few hours in a warehouse environment — is that a battery issue?
Sustained scan-plus-wireless draw in an enclosed housing generates heat from both the cell and the RF circuitry simultaneously. On the EDA50K, the battery sits directly behind the imager module with limited airflow, so thermal buildup is normal under continuous operation in warm warehouse environments. If surface temperature stays below 45°C it is within safe operating range. If it exceeds that, reduce continuous scan intervals and check that the battery bay vent slot on the rear housing is not blocked by a protective sleeve or label.
