Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Peaktech P 9020 / P9021 / P9020A — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (301-62-412)
This 11.1V 2600mAh Li-ion pack replaces OEM part 301-62-412 in the Peaktech P 9020, P9021, and P9020A digital multimeters. These are portable field measurement instruments used in electrical diagnostics and survey work. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec exactly — no modification needed at the connector.
- P 9020 / P9021 / P9020A compatibility: All three models share the same 11.1V three-cell Li-ion architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single pack covers the range. Swapping between models on the same replacement pack works because the instrument reads cell voltage directly, not a proprietary fuel gauge signal.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through probe initialisation sequences and sustained logging loads. The BMS held charge delivery stable across measurement bursts and flagged over-discharge cutoff at the correct low-cell threshold without false trips.
- First-use calibration before field deployment: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the P 9020 instrument menu before taking it to site. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to fire prematurely on the first measurement session, even with a full charge.
BMS cutoff at probe power-up on the P 9020
When the P 9020 initialises its probe module, it draws a brief current spike as internal measurement circuits come online. An aged or deeply discharged cell cannot sustain that spike without dropping below the BMS cutoff threshold — so the instrument shuts off at the moment you'd expect it to boot. A new pack with healthy internal resistance handles the inrush without a voltage sag. If the instrument cuts out only at probe-on and not during standby, that inrush trip is almost always the cause.
Readings resetting or drifting mid-session during data logging
Sustained sensor load during a logging session draws more current than standby — and a degraded cell shows voltage dropout under that load even when the idle battery indicator looks fine. When cell voltage sags below the instrument's internal reference floor, the P 9020 resets its measurement cycle to protect data integrity, which shows up as sudden reading resets or drifting values mid-log. This is not a probe or firmware fault — it is a sustained-load voltage issue. Replace the pack and confirm resting cell voltage holds above 10.8V under probe load before the next session.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Peaktech P 9020 won't charge after sitting in the carry case for a few months — is the pack dead?
Extended storage below roughly 2.5V per cell pushes the BMS into sleep mode, which blocks the charger from recognising the pack at all. This is a protective lockout, not permanent cell failure. Connect the charger and leave it for up to 30 minutes — many BMS circuits will self-recover once trickle current nudges cell voltage back above the recovery threshold. If the charge indicator never activates after 30 minutes, cell voltage has dropped below the recovery floor and the pack needs replacing.
The P 9020 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to my PC — what's happening?
USB data transfer adds a second draw on top of the active measurement circuit, and together they pull more current than the instrument draws at idle. If the pack has capacity fade, that combined load causes a voltage dropout the BMS reads as an unsafe discharge event and cuts power. The instrument itself is not at fault. Fit a replacement pack and confirm the transfer completes — if it does, the old pack's capacity was the constraint.
After fitting a new battery, the P 9020 shows a low-battery warning almost immediately even though the pack is fully charged — why?
The P 9020 maps its battery state reference during the calibration cycle in the instrument menu. If that calibration was not run after fitting the new pack, the instrument is still comparing voltage against a threshold table built around the old, degraded cells — so a healthy full charge reads as low. Go into the instrument menu and run a full calibration cycle. The low-battery warning should clear once the instrument recalculates its voltage thresholds against the new pack.
