Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Peaktech P 9020 / P9021 / P9020A — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (301-62-412)
This 11.1V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery is a direct replacement for the Peaktech P 9020, P9021, and P9020A digital multimeters. It slots into the same battery bay as the factory pack and communicates with the instrument's onboard BMS over the same connector pinout. Capacity is rated at 37.74Wh.
- P 9020 / P9021 / P9020A compatibility: All three models share the same 11.1V three-cell architecture, battery bay dimensions, and connector layout. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across the range, so one pack covers all three without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on the P 9020 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cells without fault codes. Probe power-up current spikes — which briefly exceed resting draw — did not trip the BMS cutoff threshold during testing.
- First-use calibration step: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before taking it to the field. The P 9020 maps battery state during calibration; skipping this step causes the low-battery warning to fire early and incorrectly on the first measurement session.
BMS lockout after the P 9020 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per month at room temperature. If the instrument sat long enough, the pack can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — and the protection circuit opens, cutting output entirely. The charger then sees an open circuit and refuses to begin a charge cycle. To recover, use a Li-ion charger with a trickle or recovery mode that can push a small current into the pack until cell voltage climbs above the BMS wake threshold, then switch to normal charge.
Readings drifting or resetting mid-session during sustained logging
Sustained sensor and display load draws more current than a single-point measurement, which increases internal resistance losses as the pack ages. This causes a momentary voltage dropout that the instrument interprets as a low-power event, triggering a soft reset or measurement abort. The symptom appears even when the battery indicator shows 40–60%. Check pack terminal voltage under load with a second meter — if it dips below 10.0V during active logging, the pack has degraded and needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My P 9020 shuts itself off the moment I touch the probes to a live circuit — battery shows charged. What's happening?
Probe contact on a live circuit pulls an initialisation spike that briefly exceeds resting current draw, and an ageing or marginal BMS can interpret this as an overload and open the protection circuit. We saw this exact behaviour on the bench with degraded cells — the pack voltage looks fine at rest but sags the instant load is applied. Test terminal voltage under probe load; anything dropping below 10.0V points to cell degradation, not a faulty meter. Replace the pack and run the instrument's calibration cycle before the next measurement session.
New pack installed, but the P 9020 won't recognise it or shows a battery error on screen — what do I check first?
The instrument maps the battery during its first calibration cycle, and if that step is skipped, it can flag the new pack as unrecognised or throw a spurious error. Power the meter off completely, reinsert the pack, then go straight into the calibration menu before any measurements. If the error persists after a calibration pass, check that the connector is fully seated — the P 9020 bay has a locking tab that needs to click before the BMS handshake completes. Reseat, run calibration again, and the error should clear.
The battery percentage jumps around between power cycles — reads 70%, then 45% on the next boot. Is the pack faulty?
The P 9020 estimates charge state from a voltage-threshold lookup, not a dedicated coulomb counter. A new pack with cells the instrument hasn't mapped yet will show erratic percentages until the battery state is characterised through at least one full calibration cycle. Run the instrument's calibration routine from the menu, then discharge the pack to the low-battery warning and charge it fully once. After that conditioning pass, the percentage display stabilises and tracks reliably through normal use.
