This is a 7.4V 1200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the WEIERWE VEV-3288, VEV-3288S, and V-1000 handheld two-way radios. It slots into the same bay as the factory pack and uses the same contact layout. Capacity is rated at 1200mAh (8.88Wh) — identical to the original spec.

  • VEV-3288 / VEV-3288S / V-1000 fit: These three models share the same battery bay dimensions, contact pitch, and 7.4V nominal voltage rail. The BMS on each radio handshakes over the same contact strip, so one pack covers all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the VEV-3288 platform. The BMS held cutoff at the correct threshold under PTT transmit load, with no overcurrent trip during sustained keying.
  • First insertion on the WEIERWE dock: If the dock LED blinks fault on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The radio's BMS needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new pack before charging begins.

VEV-3288 transmit current spike and BMS overcurrent response

When you press PTT, the VEV-3288 pulls a sharp current spike to drive the RF output stage. A new pack at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell — can trigger the BMS overcurrent protection during that spike, cutting the radio mid-transmission. This is not a faulty battery. Once the pack is fully charged to 4.2V per cell, the internal impedance drops and the BMS handles the transmit spike without tripping. Run one full charge cycle before heavy use.

The VEV-3288 uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage window. A new cell shipped at storage voltage sits near the bottom of the middle threshold, so the radio reads one bar lower than full. This is normal; the cell is not defective. Charge the pack fully before reading the indicator. After a complete charge to 8.4V across the pack, the indicator should step up to the correct level.

My VEV-3288 cuts out right when I press PTT with the new battery — is the pack bad?

It is not bad. The transmit current spike on PTT is high enough to trip the BMS overcurrent protection when the cell is at storage voltage. Charge the pack fully before first use — once cells reach 4.2V each, internal impedance drops and the BMS clears the spike without cutting out.

The charger dock LED blinks and never moves to solid green — what is wrong?

This usually means the pack arrived below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold, so the charger refuses to enter bulk charge mode. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. If the LED still blinks after reseating, leave the pack in the dock for 15 minutes — most WEIERWE docks will begin a trickle recovery cycle that brings the cell voltage up to the acceptance threshold before switching to normal charge.

Radio drops to noticeably weaker TX output mid-shift but does not fully cut out — why?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF load. As the cell depletes, voltage drops enough that the radio's power control circuit steps back the output stage to protect the finals. It is distinct from a full BMS cutoff — the radio stays on but transmits at reduced power. Swap the battery at the start of each shift rather than running it to low charge; the sag threshold on the VEV-3288 kicks in well before the bar indicator hits empty.
