Fits Zoom Q8 Recorder, replaces OEM part number BT-03 battery pack.
3.7V, 1800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 6.66Wh — matches original capacity for full recording sessions on portable audio-video units.
Connector seats flush into the Q8 battery slot with spring-contact alignment and positive locking tab engagement.
We ran full discharge cycles on a Q8 body — BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, voltage curve tracked stable through record-to-shutdown.
On first use, charge fully in the Q8 body itself before extended recording — the recorder's firmware maps capacity thresholds to this cell's discharge curve during initial charge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zoom Q8 Recorder — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-03)

This is a 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the BT-03 battery in the Zoom Q8 portable audio-video recorder. The Q8 uses this cell as its sole internal power source for simultaneous high-resolution audio and video capture. Fit model is the Q8 Recorder only — confirm your unit before ordering.

  • Q8 Recorder compatibility: The Q8 runs a single-cell Li-ion architecture at 3.7V nominal. The BT-03 footprint — 53.00 × 35.20 × 10.90 mm — is specific to this chassis. Swapping in a cell outside that voltage rail causes the onboard BMS to reject it immediately.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Q8 body. The BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag, and the charge circuit tracked correctly through to termination. No thermal anomalies were recorded during high-bitrate video capture sessions.
  • First-install charge cycle on the Q8 body: Run one complete charge cycle inside the Q8 using the OEM USB connection before your first recording session. The Q8's battery-remaining indicator calibrates its threshold map during this cycle — skipping it causes erratic percentage readings on screen during early use.

Why the Q8 battery percentage jumps erratically after fitting a new cell

The Q8 maps its battery indicator against a fixed voltage-threshold table stored in firmware. A fresh cell has a slightly different discharge curve than a worn original, so the indicator can jump — showing 80%, then 95%, then 60% within minutes. This is not a faulty cell. The BMS recalibrates this mapping after one or two full charge-discharge cycles completed inside the recorder body. After that, the percentage readout stabilises and tracks accurately against the 3.7V nominal curve.

Q8 showing dead or no-battery indicator on a known-good replacement cell

If the Q8 displays a dead-battery icon immediately after fitting a new BT-03 cell, the most common cause is a BMS deep-discharge lockout on the replacement cell. Cells can sit in storage and drop below the 2.5V recovery threshold, triggering a protection latch. Connect the Q8 to USB power and leave it for 15–20 minutes without powering on — this allows the charge IC to trickle-charge the cell back above 2.8V and release the latch. If the indicator clears after that, proceed with a full charge cycle before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zoom Q8 cuts off mid-recording even though the battery indicator showed charge remaining — what's happening?

The Q8 draws higher current during simultaneous HD video and 32-bit audio capture than the battery indicator accounts for at rest. Voltage sags under that combined load, and if the cell is partially aged, it dips below the BMS cutoff threshold before the display catches up. This is a load-voltage issue, not a meter error. Fit the new BT-03 cell, run one full charge cycle inside the Q8 body, and check that the USB charge cable is not damaged — a resistive cable slows the pre-session charge and leaves the cell under capacity before you start.

The battery percentage on my Q8 drops from 100% to around 40% almost immediately after unplugging from charge — is the new cell defective?

This is a threshold-mapping mismatch, not a defective cell. The Q8 firmware reads a voltage point at rest and calls it 100%, but once load is applied the cell's actual discharge curve sits lower than the stored map expects. It is common on the first few cycles with a new BT-03 cell. Complete two full charge-to-discharge cycles inside the Q8 body and the indicator will track the real discharge curve correctly from around 4.2V fully charged down to the 3.0V cutoff.

My Q8 records fine indoors but the battery drains noticeably faster when I shoot outside in cold weather — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. Li-ion chemistry loses usable capacity as temperature drops — internal resistance rises and the BMS cuts off earlier to protect the cell, even though capacity technically remains. The BT-03 at 1800mAh is rated at room temperature; below 10°C you will see a real reduction in available capacity. Keep the Q8 in an inside pocket between takes to hold the cell above 15°C, and the recorder will hold charge for a full session.
