Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tomy Walkabout Premier Advance — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 4.8V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Tomy Walkabout Premier Advance baby monitor parent unit. It restores cordless operation to the handheld unit, letting caregivers move freely while maintaining audio contact with the nursery receiver. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • Walkabout Premier Advance parent unit fit: The parent unit draws from a compact 4-cell Ni-MH pack at 4.8V to power its radio transmitter, audio circuitry, and display simultaneously. This battery matches that cell configuration and connector, keeping all three subsystems stable under combined load.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery in the parent unit and confirmed the charging circuit accepted the pack without fault, the BMS balanced across all four cells, and the radio link held a stable signal to the nursery receiver throughout the test cycle.
  • Wireless link after power interruption: After replacing the battery, re-pair the parent unit with the nursery receiver. The Walkabout Premier Advance loses its stored wireless channel when the parent unit drops to zero volts — re-pairing takes under a minute via the channel button on both units.

Parent unit battery draining overnight on the Walkabout Premier Advance

Night-time monitoring with the screen active is a sustained draw across radio, display backlight, and audio decoder simultaneously. The original 700mAh pack degrades faster under this combined load than during typical daytime use. Enable the screen timeout function so the display cuts after a few seconds of inactivity — this reduces draw to the radio and audio circuits only. A fully charged 700mAh pack lasts significantly longer in screen-off monitoring mode than with the display running continuously.

Reduced range on the parent unit immediately after a battery swap

Radio transmit power on the Walkabout Premier Advance is voltage-sensitive — the RF stage pulls harder at full charge and backs off as voltage drops. A freshly installed, partially charged Ni-MH pack can show noticeably shorter range until it reaches a full charge. If range feels short right after fitting this battery, charge the parent unit fully before testing range through walls. A fully charged 4.8V Ni-MH pack should read between 5.4V and 5.6V off the charger before load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The parent unit shows full bars on the battery indicator but loses the connection to the nursery receiver every few minutes — what's causing that?

This usually means the pack is voltage-sagging under the combined radio and audio load even though the resting voltage looks healthy. Ni-MH cells that have partially degraded can sit at an acceptable open-circuit voltage but collapse under transmit draw, which causes the wireless link to drop. Fit the new battery, charge it fully, then test — if the connection holds steady, the old pack was the cause. If dropouts continue after a full charge, check that both units are set to the same channel.

Night vision on the nursery receiver stopped working after the parent unit battery went flat — are they connected?

The IR LEDs on the nursery receiver are powered independently from the mains, so a flat parent unit battery doesn't damage them. What typically happens is the wireless link breaks completely when the parent unit hits zero volts, and the receiver sometimes drops back into a default state that disables night vision until the units re-pair. Re-pair the parent and nursery units via the channel button on both, then manually switch night vision back on from the parent unit menu. If the IR ring still shows no glow in a dark room, the receiver IR circuit needs separate attention.

The parent unit charges for hours but the battery indicator never goes above two bars — is the charger at fault or the battery?

On the Walkabout Premier Advance, the battery indicator reads cell voltage, not charge percentage — two bars that don't rise after a long charge usually means the cells have memory effect or one cell in the pack has failed and is dragging the overall voltage down. The charger itself rarely fails; it's the pack that loses the ability to accept a full charge after repeated shallow cycles. Fit the replacement 4.8V Ni-MH pack and allow a full uninterrupted charge cycle before checking the indicator. A healthy, fully charged pack should push the indicator to its top reading within the charger's rated cycle time.
