Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Philips SBC-EB4870 / SBC-EB4880 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (MT700D04C051)
This is a 4.8V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Philips SBC-EB4870 and SBC-EB4880 baby monitor parent units. It fits the A1706 and E2005 hardware revisions of the SBC-EB4870, and the A1706 revision of the SBC-EB4880. When the original battery no longer holds a charge, this cell restores portable operation to the parent handset.
- SBC-EB4870 and SBC-EB4880 compatibility: Both the EB4870 and EB4880 parent units share the same 4.8V Ni-MH cell format and connector pinout. The MT700D04C051 part number covers both lines, so one cell fits either handset without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the SBC-EB4870 parent unit. The internal protection circuit responded correctly to end-of-charge voltage and the handset showed a full charge indicator within expected charge time.
- Re-pair the handset after every battery swap: The SBC-EB4870 and SBC-EB4880 parent units lose their wireless link to the nursery unit when power is interrupted completely. After fitting this battery, power on the parent unit and run the pairing sequence before relying on the monitor overnight.
Parent unit not connecting to the camera unit after battery swap
Philips SBC-EB48xx parent units store their wireless pairing data in volatile memory. A full power-down — which happens every time the battery is removed — clears that link. Fitting a new battery does not restore the pairing automatically. Power on the parent unit, press and hold the pairing button on the nursery unit until the link indicator confirms connection, then verify the video or audio feed before placing the handset in use.
Night vision dropping out on a freshly charged parent unit
The IR LED array in the nursery unit draws a sustained current during low-light operation. If the parent unit battery is only partially charged, the voltage rail can sag just enough to trigger the handset's low-battery warning and reduce IR output. Charge the parent unit fully before the first overnight session — Ni-MH cells need a complete charge cycle to reach rated capacity from a storage state. A full charge should bring the cell to approximately 5.6V open-circuit before the handset begins regulating it down to operating voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Philips SBC-EB4870 parent unit shows full bars after charging but loses signal range within a few hours — is the new battery faulty?
Range on the SBC-EB48xx is voltage-sensitive — the radio transmitter pulls more current at longer distances, and a partially conditioned Ni-MH cell sags under that draw. A new Ni-MH battery often needs two or three full charge-discharge cycles before it delivers rated capacity. Run two complete cycles: charge fully, use the handset until the low-battery warning triggers, then charge fully again. After conditioning, check open-circuit voltage — a healthy 4.8V Ni-MH pack should read between 5.4V and 5.6V off charge.
The parent unit screen stays on all night and the battery is dead by morning — is this normal with a 700mAh cell?
Yes. The SBC-EB4870 screen running continuously overnight is a sustained draw that a 700mAh cell was not sized to cover indefinitely. Go into the parent unit menu and enable the screen timeout or VOX (voice activation) mode — the screen shuts off until sound is detected in the nursery. That single change cuts average current draw significantly and extends operation between charges.
I fitted the new MT700D04C051 battery but the parent unit won't power on at all — the charge indicator just blinks.
A blinking charge indicator with no power-on usually means the Ni-MH cell voltage is below the handset's minimum startup threshold after storage. Ni-MH cells self-discharge during transit and shelf time and can arrive at 3.5V or lower. Leave the parent unit on charge for at least 90 minutes before attempting to power it on — the internal charger circuit needs to recover the cell above approximately 4.2V before the handset's power controller will allow startup.
