Fits Dolphin 7300, 7400, 7450, and HH-7400M barcode scanners; replaces OEM part numbers 200-00552 and 200-00589.
3.6V Ni-MH chemistry with 2700mAh capacity delivers the sustained current draw needed for continuous barcode capture and wireless transmission without mid-shift cutoff.
Battery slides into the rear compartment with a single locking tab; connector is keyed to prevent reverse insertion and aligns flush with the device housing.
We bench tested this cell under simulated pick-and-pack scan bursts with radio polling active; the BMS held output stable through rapid trigger cycles with no voltage sag below device minimum.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in the field — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dolphin 7300 / 7400 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (200-00552)

This is a 3.6V, 2700mAh Ni-MH battery for the Dolphin 7300, 7400, 7450, and HH-7400M handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers 200-00552 and 200-00589. These scanners are used in retail and warehouse pick-and-pack operations where scanner downtime directly stalls throughput.

  • 7300 / 7400 series platform fit: The 7300, 7400, 7450, and HH-7400M share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the 7400's BMS on the bench. The protection circuit responded correctly to scan-trigger inrush and wireless radio draw, holding voltage without tripping the low-cell cutoff under combined load.
  • First-shift cradle conditioning: After installing a new pack, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before sending it to the floor. Scan-trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge, and a fresh-from-box Ni-MH cell can trip the BMS cutoff on the first heavy scan burst if deployed uncharged.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

Ni-MH cells fresh from storage can sit at a resting voltage that the Dolphin cradle's charge controller reads as a fault condition rather than a discharged pack. The dock checks cell voltage on contact before initiating a charge cycle — if the reading falls outside its expected window, it flags an error instead of charging. Wipe the battery contacts and cradle terminals with a dry cloth and reseat the pack firmly. If the error persists, remove the pack, wait 10 seconds, and reseat — this resets the dock's contact-detection handshake.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

On the 7400 series, the radio transmitter and the scan trigger fire simultaneously during fast-paced scanning — the combined inrush can pull voltage down momentarily if the cell is partially depleted. The BMS interprets this voltage sag as a low-cell event and briefly cuts power to non-essential subsystems, which drops the wireless link. The fix is to avoid running the pack below roughly 3.3V under load — if the scanner is losing connection mid-shift, return it to the cradle before the shift ends, not after.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dolphin 7400 scanner stops reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

A new Ni-MH pack shipped from storage may not have enough charge to sustain the laser or imager's power draw on the first trigger press. The imager needs a stable voltage above the scanner's minimum threshold — a cell at storage charge level may dip below that on the first burst. Place the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before use. After a complete charge, the imager will fire and hold focus without dropping out.

The scanner runs fine for the first hour then feels warm and starts missing scans — is the battery faulty?

This is normal behaviour under sustained combined load in the 7400 series, not a faulty cell. The scanner housing traps heat from continuous scan-plus-radio draw, and as the internal temperature rises, the BMS tightens its voltage thresholds to protect the cells — missed scans follow. Rotate two packs across shifts so each pack gets a full cradle rest between uses. This keeps cell temperature down and keeps the BMS operating in its normal voltage window throughout the shift.

My old Dolphin battery lasted a full shift but this new 2700mAh pack seems to drain faster during high-volume picking — what's happening?

A new Ni-MH pack needs several full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity — out of the box, it may deliver 70–80% of its 2700mAh rating. Ni-MH cells condition through use, not storage. Run three to four complete charge cycles through the cradle — full charge, then scan until the low-battery indicator triggers, then recharge fully. By the fourth cycle, the pack will be operating at or near its rated 2700mAh capacity.
