Fits Opticon OPL-9700, OPL-9712, OPL-9723, OPL-9724 and eight other models; replaces OEM part numbers 02-BATLION-03, 11267, ORBLIOP0012.
This 3.7V 800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 2.96Wh — sufficient for full-shift scanning in retail and warehouse environments without midday swaps.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a positive contact tab; locking notch secures the pack flush against the scanner housing.
We bench-tested this X-Longer series cell in an OPL-9723 across 200 charge cycles; BMS showed no early cutoff during rapid scan burst sequences.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first shift — scan trigger inrush current prevents false BMS trips on pre-charged cells.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPL-9700 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (02-BATLION-03)

This 3.7V 800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the factory battery in the Opticon OPL-9700 handheld barcode scanner. It also fits the OPL-9712, OPL-9723, and OPL-9724 across the same scanner family. Capacity is 800mAh (2.96Wh) — matched to the original specification.

  • OPL-9700 series compatibility: The OPL-9700, OPL-9712, OPL-9723, and OPL-9724 share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all four without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan trigger bursts and wireless polling loads on the OPL-9700 platform. The BMS held correct cutoff thresholds at both the low-voltage floor and charge termination point across repeated cycles.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before use. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first high-frequency scan burst of the shift.

Cradle charging error on a new pack

The OPL-9700 cradle reads contact resistance before initiating a charge cycle. If the dock contacts on the scanner or cradle have oxidation or debris, the cradle flags a charging error even with a brand-new cell installed. Remove the scanner, wipe the gold contacts on the battery face and cradle dock with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly. The error clears once contact resistance drops below the cradle's threshold — typically confirmed by the charge LED switching from red to amber within 10 seconds of reseating.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

On the OPL-9700, the wireless radio and scan trigger draw current simultaneously during a rapid scan sequence. If the cell voltage sags below 3.4V under combined load, the radio stack resets to protect the processor — which the host system reads as a dropped connection. This is not a radio fault. Charge the pack to full before a high-throughput shift and check that the cradle contact is clean so charge termination completes correctly at 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My OPL-9700 won't read barcodes after I put the new battery in — laser comes on but no scan beep. What's wrong?

The scan engine needs minimum voltage to process and decode — if the new cell shipped partially discharged, the laser fires but decode power falls short. Place the scanner in the cradle and run a full charge cycle before attempting any scans. Once the pack reaches 4.2V termination, the decode circuit gets full operating voltage and the scan beep returns. Do not test by scanning first — trigger inrush on a low cell is the fastest way to trip the BMS into lockout on the first shift.

The scanner gets noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous scanning. Is that a battery fault?

Sustained scan bursts combined with constant wireless polling generate heat inside the OPL-9700's enclosed housing, and the cell itself adds a small thermal contribution under continuous draw. Warmth during extended shifts is normal — what to watch is whether the scanner shuts off mid-shift, which signals thermal cutoff rather than just warmth. If shutdowns occur, allow a 10-minute rest between heavy scan sessions to let the housing dissipate heat. Check that the battery contacts are clean so charge transfer is efficient and the cell isn't working harder than needed to maintain voltage.

This new battery doesn't seem to last as long as the old one did at the start — is it defective?

Li-ion cells ship at partial state of charge for transport safety, so initial shift endurance is lower until the cell has completed two or three full charge-discharge cycles. Run the scanner to the auto-shutoff threshold and return it to the cradle for a full charge, and repeat that two more times. Capacity stabilises after those conditioning cycles. If endurance is still noticeably short after three full cycles, check the cradle contacts — incomplete charge termination keeps the pack below 4.2V and reduces usable capacity every shift.
