Fits Opticon OPN-2001, OPN-2002, OPN-2004, OPN-2006 and related models; replaces OEM battery pack for this handheld barcode scanner line.
3.7V 190mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers stable voltage across scan cycles without the voltage sag that causes read failures on aging packs.
Connector slides into the battery slot on the scanner handle with a single locking tab; matches OEM contact orientation and dock charging alignment.
We bench-tested this cell on the OPN-2001 dock; BMS accepted the charge handshake without fault codes and held voltage steady through 50 consecutive scan bursts.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before pick-and-pack use — the scan trigger draws peak inrush current when the cell runs low, and a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS cutoff on your first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPN-2001 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery

This 3.7V 190mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the internal battery in the Opticon OPN-2001, OPN-2002, OPN-2004, and OPN-2006 compact barcode scanners. It fits the slim 26.10 x 20.40 x 5.50mm cavity in the OPN housing without modification. Capacity matches the original pack at 0.7Wh.

  • OPN-2001 through OPN-2006 platform: These models share the same compact chassis, battery footprint, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake and voltage rail are identical across the series, so one cell covers all listed variants without any firmware or wiring difference.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the OPN platform and monitored BMS cutoff thresholds. The protection circuit responded correctly at both low-voltage cutoff and charge termination, with no false trips during simulated scan-burst inrush.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before triggering any scans. The scan trigger draws peak inrush current at the start of each burst, and a cell that enters its first shift near minimum charge is more likely to hit BMS low-voltage cutoff mid-session.

Cradle showing charging error on a freshly installed pack

A new Li-Polymer cell shipped in a storage state typically sits between 3.6V and 3.8V. Some OPN cradles flag a charging fault when dock contact resistance is high enough to disrupt the charge handshake on the first insertion. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery pack and the cradle dock with a dry cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. If the error clears, the issue was contact resistance, not a fault in the cell itself.

Scanner drops wireless connection during rapid back-to-back scans

The OPN-2001 fires both the scan trigger and the wireless radio in close succession during fast scanning. When the cell voltage sags under that combined inrush load, the radio module can lose enough voltage headroom to drop its connection. This is more common with a degraded original battery but can also occur briefly with a new cell that has not completed its first full charge cycle. Charge to 4.2V before the first use, and the voltage sag under combined load will stay within the radio module's minimum operating threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My OPN-2001 won't read barcodes after fitting the new battery — the laser fires but nothing registers

A cell in storage state may not have enough charge to sustain the laser at full power through a complete decode cycle. The scanner can power on and fire a weak pulse but still fail to read. Place it in the cradle for a full charge before scanning — once the cell reaches 4.2V, laser output returns to the level the decoder needs to resolve a barcode.

The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long picking shift — is the battery the cause?

In the enclosed OPN housing, sustained scan-burst activity combined with continuous wireless polling concentrates heat around the battery and radio module. A new Li-Polymer cell running at a higher charge level will dissipate slightly more heat than a depleted original pack, so some warmth is expected. If the housing becomes hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold, check that the cradle fully terminated the last charge — an overcharged cell running above 4.2V increases thermal output under load. Let the unit cool and verify the cradle's charge-complete indicator before the next shift.

The replacement battery seems to drain faster than expected on heavy scanning days compared to a lighter day

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling both draw from the same 190mAh cell, and high-volume picking shifts can trigger hundreds of combined inrush events per hour. That pattern draws more total charge than slow, intermittent scanning even if the shift length is identical. At 0.7Wh, this cell matches the original capacity — if endurance still falls short, reduce the wireless polling interval in the OPN configuration utility to lower the background radio draw between scans.
