Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon PHL-2700 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (2540000020)
This is a 2.4V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Opticon PHL-2700 and PHL-2700 RFID handheld barcode scanners. It matches OEM part number 2540000020 and slots directly into the battery compartment of both variants. Capacity is 3.6Wh — identical to the original pack.
- PHL-2700 and PHL-2700 RFID compatibility: Both models run the same 2.4V power rail and use the same physical form factor and connector. The RFID variant draws marginally more current during tag reads, but the cell chemistry and BMS handshake are identical across both — one pack covers either unit.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the PHL-2700 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, held voltage above the scanner's minimum operating threshold through repeated scan-trigger events, and returned a clean charge cycle in the cradle dock.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before picking up the first shift. Scan-trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips when the scanner goes straight into rapid-scan pick-and-pack work.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
Ni-MH cells can ship with surface oxidation on the contact pads, and the PHL-2700 cradle is sensitive to contact resistance at the charge interface. A high-resistance connection causes the dock to misread the charge state and throw an error instead of beginning the charge cycle. Wipe the gold contacts on the battery pack and the cradle terminals with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly. If the error clears, the contact surface was the cause — not the pack or the charger.
Scanner dropping wireless connection during back-to-back scan bursts
Each scan trigger pulls a brief current spike, and if the radio is simultaneously polling the host system, the combined inrush can drag cell voltage below the scanner's radio module threshold. The PHL-2700 drops the wireless link first — before it drops scanning — because the radio is lower priority in the power management stack. This is most common mid-shift when the cell is between 30–40% state of charge. A replacement pack with full charge restores the voltage headroom; if dropouts return quickly, check that cradle charge time is completing fully before the unit goes back into use.

Frequently Asked Questions
The scanner reads fine when I first install the battery, but it starts missing barcodes halfway through the shift — what's happening?
As the Ni-MH cell discharges past roughly 40% state of charge, the voltage delivered to the laser or imager module drops enough to reduce output intensity. The scanner appears functional — it triggers — but the light source is below the threshold needed for reliable decodes on damaged or low-contrast labels. Charge the pack fully in the cradle before each shift, and don't pull the scanner mid-charge. If misses still appear early in a shift, wipe the scan window — a dirty aperture compounds the effect of any voltage sag.
The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a problem?
Ni-MH cells generate more heat than lithium chemistries during sustained discharge, and the PHL-2700's enclosed housing traps that heat. Warmth after an extended shift is normal; heat that makes the unit uncomfortable to hold is not. That level of heat usually points to a partially shorted cell or a pack that has been deep-discharged repeatedly. Check whether the pack is reaching a full charge in the cradle — a Ni-MH cell that never fully charges will run hotter under load. If the replacement pack runs noticeably cooler than the old one, the old cell had internal damage.
The new battery drains faster than the old one did when the scanner was new — what's different?
A fresh Ni-MH pack often needs two to three full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity. On the first few shifts it can appear to drain faster simply because the cells haven't fully formed. Run the scanner to low charge, return it to the cradle for a complete charge cycle, and repeat that two more times. If capacity still seems short after three full cycles, check whether the cradle indicator confirms a completed charge — a dock fault that terminates charge early is a more common cause than a faulty pack.
