Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Symbol LS3478 / DS3478 / LS3578 / DS3578 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTRY-LS34IAB00-00)

This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh lithium-ion battery for the Symbol LS3478, DS3478, LS3578, and DS3578 handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers BTRY-LS34IAB00-00 and 21-62606-01. These scanners are used in retail point-of-sale, warehouse picking, and inventory management — environments where scanner downtime directly stalls a shift.

  • LS3478 / DS3478 / LS3578 / DS3578 platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V supply rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full group — no connector adapters or firmware differences to account for between them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the LS3478 platform. The BMS handled scan-trigger inrush correctly without tripping into protection mode, and charge acceptance from the cradle was clean from the first cycle.
  • First-shift prep for pick-and-pack operations: After installing a new pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge before use. Scan trigger inrush is highest when cell voltage is near minimum — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips during the first active shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

Symbol cradles read the battery's BMS over the contact strip on the back of the pack. If those contacts are dirty or misaligned, the dock interprets the lack of communication as a fault and displays a charging error. This is not a defective battery — it is a contact resistance issue. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle slot with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and confirm the charge indicator advances within 60 seconds.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The LS3478 and DS3578 run both the laser or imager and the wireless radio simultaneously during active scanning. A rapid scan burst spikes combined current draw — if the cell is partly discharged, voltage sag under that combined load can cause the radio module to drop its link before the BMS reaches cutoff. The fix is to avoid starting a high-volume scan session with the battery below roughly 3.5V. Charge the pack fully before any pick run that involves dense burst scanning or extended wireless polling.

Frequently Asked Questions

My LS3478 stopped reading barcodes right after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but nothing scans

The laser or imager needs the supply voltage to be above a minimum threshold before it outputs enough power to decode a barcode. A freshly installed pack that was stored discharged may sit just at or below that rail. Seat the scanner in the cradle and charge it for at least 30 minutes, then retry scanning. If the laser was firing but not reading, low cell voltage is the cause — a charged pack resolves it immediately.

The new battery seems to run out much faster than my original did — what's actually happening?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling are both continuous draws on the LS3478 platform, and they compound quickly in a busy warehouse environment. If the scanner is configured for aggressive wireless polling intervals or the scan trigger is held during conveyor work, draw is significantly higher than casual retail use. Check the scanner's radio polling setting in the device config — reducing the polling interval extends shift endurance without changing any hardware. The replacement pack matches OEM capacity at 2600mAh, so shortened endurance points to usage pattern, not the cell.

Scanner gets noticeably warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Sustained heat on the LS3478 and DS3578 comes from the combined load of the wireless radio and the scan engine running continuously inside a plastic housing with limited airflow. The battery does contribute some heat during high-rate discharge, but the primary source is the radio module. If the housing feels hot near the top rather than near the battery bay, the radio is the driver. Rotate the scanner with a second charged pack mid-shift to keep both the device and the battery operating below thermal stress levels.
