Fits Aastra Openphone 28 handsets; replaces OEM battery type 2.4V 600mAh Ni-MH.
2.4V, 600mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full talk and standby time on DECT handsets without voltage sag under transmit load.
Connector slides into handset battery compartment with polarity marked; locking tab seats flush against the base contact frame.
We bench-tested the cell on a DECT simulator — BMS voltage sat 2.55V nominal, charging accepted cleanly at 16-hour trickle cycle.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Aastra Openphone 28 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 600mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Aastra Openphone 28 cordless handset. It replaces the original pack when the handset no longer holds a charge or drops calls mid-conversation. The cell dimensions are 35.80 × 33.50 × 7.00mm — confirm these against your existing pack before ordering.

  • Openphone 28 handset fit: The Openphone 28 uses a 2.4V two-cell Ni-MH configuration. The base station's charging circuit expects this voltage window. A mismatched voltage won't trigger the charge cycle correctly, so stick to the 2.4V spec.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH compatible test rig. The BMS accepted the charge curve without cutoff errors, and voltage held steady across the full discharge window.
  • First charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH packs in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — a short first charge will leave you with noticeably less talk time from day one.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

New Ni-MH cells don't deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle. The chemistry needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches 600mAh. If talk time feels short in the first few days, that's normal — cycle the battery fully by letting the handset run down, then charging completely in the base. By cycle five, capacity should match the rated spec.

Base station not charging after battery swap

Ni-MH packs that sit in storage can drop to a voltage level the base station's charging circuit won't recognise as a valid battery. The charger sees the low starting voltage and refuses to initiate the charge cycle. To recover, remove the battery, wait 30 seconds, reinsert it firmly, and reseat the handset squarely in the base. If the charge indicator still won't light, the pack voltage may be too low — leave it seated for up to an hour, as some base stations apply a trickle pulse before switching to full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Openphone 28 is losing range right after I put in the new battery — is that a pairing issue?

Range loss on a fresh Ni-MH pack is almost always a voltage sag issue, not pairing. When the battery hasn't been conditioned yet, voltage drops under the RF transmit load and the handset pulls back its signal strength. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and the range will stabilise as capacity builds up to the rated 600mAh.

The Openphone 28 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT handsets lose their pairing data when power is fully interrupted during a battery change. The Openphone 28 stores pairing in the handset, and a complete power loss can wipe it. Re-register the handset through the base station's pairing mode — typically held by pressing the registration button on the base for three to five seconds until the LED flashes, then confirming on the handset.

The battery drains overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is a contact issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully seated, the charging pins don't make a clean connection and the handset runs on battery rather than trickle charging from the base. Check that the handset clicks or sits flush in the cradle, and wipe the gold charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth to clear any oxidation.
