Fits Alcatel Free cordless phone handset, replaces OEM battery CS-BT098CL.
4.8V and 1500mAh rating restores full talk time on aged handsets.
Slides into handset battery slot with positive terminal facing the contacts.
We bench-tested the NiMH pack on a Free base unit; charging acceptance was clean and BMS voltage held steady through discharge cycles.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alcatel Free — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 4.8V, 1500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the Alcatel Free cordless handset. It restores power to handsets that no longer hold charge or have stopped working altogether. Voltage and cell count match the original, so the base station charges it the same way it charged the factory pack.

  • Alcatel Free handset fit: The Free uses a 4.8V four-cell Ni-MH pack with a specific connector orientation and footprint. This battery matches those physical and electrical specs — the BMS in the base station reads the incoming voltage correctly and enters normal charge mode.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on this pack using a Ni-MH-compatible analyser. The BMS accepted the charge without triggering delta-V cutoff errors, and capacity measured within 5% of the 1500mAh rating by cycle three.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: Place the handset in the base immediately after installing and leave it there for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped from storage are partially discharged — a slow initial charge lets each cell reach equal voltage and unlocks rated capacity.

Why the Free base station shows no charge light on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH batteries lose voltage during storage. If the pack sits long enough, its resting voltage drops below the threshold the base station uses to detect a valid battery. The charger circuit looks for a minimum voltage before it starts — if that floor isn't met, the charge LED stays off or flashes an error. Seat the handset in the base and wait 15–20 minutes; most base stations will trickle enough current to bring the pack above 4.0V and trigger normal charging.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting the new battery

Ni-MH cells don't reach full rated capacity on the first charge cycle — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a fault. The cells need three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles before capacity stabilises at the 1500mAh rating. Avoid putting the handset back on the base after short calls during the first week; let the pack run down to the low-battery warning before reseating it. By cycle five, talk time should match what the original battery delivered when new.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Alcatel Free handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT cordless phones clear their pairing data when power drops to zero. The base station stores its own side of the pairing, so the link needs to be re-established manually. Put both the base and handset into registration mode — on most Alcatel DECT phones that means holding the Paging or Find button on the base for five seconds until the LED flashes, then pressing the menu key on the handset. Once the handset confirms registration, place it in the base to complete the initial charge.

The battery drains completely overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

A fully seated handset in the base draws charge current, not supply current — if the battery is draining, the handset is not making proper contact with the charging pins. Check that neither the base pins nor the handset contacts have oxidation or debris; wipe both with a dry cloth. Also confirm the handset clicks into the cradle fully — a slight tilt breaks the circuit. If the contacts are clean and seating is correct, measure the base output with a multimeter; you should see between 6V and 9V DC at the charge pins.

Range dropped noticeably right after I put the new battery in — the signal was fine before. What causes that?

Ni-MH voltage sags under RF transmit load, especially in the first few charge cycles when the cells haven't reached full capacity. The DECT radio in the Free draws a short burst of current each time it transmits; if the pack voltage drops during that burst, the radio reduces output power to stay within its operating window. Run three to five full charge cycles and the voltage sag during transmit shrinks as cell capacity builds. If range is still reduced after five cycles, check that the battery contacts are clean and seated — a resistive connection causes the same voltage drop under load.
