AT&T base stations use a voltage threshold to detect whether a battery is present and accepting charge. This is not a fault with the battery or the base. Place the handset in the cradle and leave it undisturbed. Most AT&T 7150 bases will begin a trickle charge within a few minutes and the indicator will clear once the cell climbs above the acceptance threshold.

Range drops noticeably after replacing the battery

The 7150 handset boosts RF transmit power from the battery rail. When a Ni-MH cell is not yet fully conditioned, its internal resistance is higher than normal, and voltage sags under the RF load. That sag causes the transmitter to pull back power, which shortens range. This usually resolves after three to five full charge and discharge cycles, once the cell reaches its rated capacity. If range is still poor after five cycles, check that the handset is seating cleanly in the base contacts — poor contact interrupts charge and keeps the cell in a partial state.
