Fits Nortel 7420, 7430, 7439, and 7449 cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM part numbers NT7B65KL, NT7B65LD, NT7B65KSE6, NTTQ47KAE6, and NT7B80BXE6.
This 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH pack delivers the voltage and capacity needed to restore full cordless range and talk time on Nortel DECT handsets after the original battery fails.
Connector slides straight into the handset battery slot with a single locking tab; no modification to housing or contacts required for secure seating.
We bench-tested this cell in a 7420 handset paired to its base station — the BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no error codes; voltage held steady under simulated RF transmit load.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nortel 7420 / 7430 / 7439 / 7449 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (NT7B65KL)

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nortel 7420, 7430, 7439, and 7449 cordless phone handsets. It restores wireless operation when the original cell has degraded and the handset can no longer hold a charge away from the base. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the OEM specification (NT7B65KL / NT7B65LD / NT7B65KSE6 / NTTQ47KAE6).

  • 7420 / 7430 / 7439 / 7449 compatibility: These models share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack, connector pinout, and BMS handshake with the base station charging circuit. One battery fits the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a 7430 handset. The base station accepted the charge signal immediately, and the BMS held voltage within the expected 3.6V nominal band across all cycles.
  • First charge on NiMH cordless handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this leads to shortened talk time that looks like a faulty battery but is actually an unconditioned cell.

Range dropping on the 7420 after a battery swap

The 7420's DECT radio draws a burst of current each time it transmits. A new NiMH pack that hasn't completed its first few charge cycles has higher internal resistance than a fully conditioned cell. Under RF transmit load, that resistance causes a momentary voltage sag — the handset's radio backs off power to compensate, and range shrinks noticeably. Running three to five full charge and discharge cycles brings internal resistance down and restores full transmit headroom. Range typically normalises by cycle four.

Base station showing a charging error after installing the new pack

NiMH batteries self-discharge during storage. If the pack voltage has dropped far enough during transit or shelf time, the Nortel base station's charging circuit can reject it — the charge LED flashes or stays red rather than showing a normal charge state. The fix is to briefly charge the battery in the handset away from the base for 30 seconds using a known-good charger, which raises the resting voltage above the base acceptance threshold. Once the cell reads above approximately 3.0V, seat the handset in the base and the charging circuit should begin a normal charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nortel 7430 talk time is much shorter than it was with the original battery — is the new pack faulty?

It's not faulty — it's unconditioned. NiMH cells in cordless phones typically need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. On cycle one, you may see noticeably short talk time; by cycle four or five it normalises. Run the handset until the low-battery tone sounds, then return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge each time.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT phones lose their pairing registration when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens during a battery swap. The base station stores the pairing but the handset's volatile memory clears. Re-register the handset using the base station's paging or registration button — on most Nortel 7400-series bases, hold the registration button for three seconds, then place the handset in the base cradle to complete the handshake.

The handset battery drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the cradle — what's causing that?

This points to a seating issue rather than a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base cradle, the charging contacts don't make consistent contact and the phone runs on battery instead of charging. Check that the cradle contacts are clean and that the handset clicks firmly into place. If the drain continues with confirmed good seating, check the base power adapter — a failing adapter can drop below the voltage needed to trigger the charging circuit.
