This is a 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Panasonic cordless phone handsets in the KX-TGA271 and KX-TGA272 series, plus 61 additional compatible models. It replaces OEM part numbers HHR-P103, HHR-P103A, N4HHGMB00001, N4HHGMB00005, and N4HHGMN00001. Dimensions are 47.00 × 32.00 × 11.50mm — check yours before ordering if the compartment is tight.

Talk time shorter than rated after battery swap

Ni-MH cells do not reach full rated capacity on the first cycle. Fresh cells typically deliver 60–75% of rated capacity on cycle one, stepping up with each full charge and discharge. The KX-TGA271 base station delivers a trickle charge once the handset is seated — it does not fast-charge. Allow three to five full cycles before judging capacity. After cycle five, a healthy pack holds 3.6V through most of the discharge curve.

Base station charge light stays red or shows error after new battery installed

A Ni-MH pack stored in a warehouse can drop below the voltage floor the Panasonic base station accepts before starting a charge cycle. The base reads the pack as faulty and stops charging. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly — the base will retry the charge-start handshake. If the error persists, check that the handset contacts and base cradle contacts are clean and making full metal-to-metal contact; a film of oxidation on either contact blocks the circuit.

This is a Ni-MH conditioning issue, not a faulty battery. Fresh Ni-MH cells store at a partial charge and need three to five full charge-and-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity. The charge indicator reads voltage at rest, not true capacity, so it shows full even when the cell hasn't been conditioned yet. Run five complete cycles — full 16-hour charge in the base, then use until the handset warns low — before drawing any conclusions about the pack.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, which can erase the DECT pairing registration stored in volatile memory on some Panasonic models. Re-register the handset manually: press and hold the locator button on the base for about four seconds until the base beeps, then press the call button on the handset within 90 seconds to complete the pairing. Refer to the last page of your KX-TGA271A manual for the exact key sequence if the model variant differs slightly.

The handset drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is this the battery or the base?

If the handset goes flat overnight in the cradle, the charge circuit is not completing — the handset is running on the battery, not topping up from the base. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that both the handset charge contacts and the base cradle pins are free of dust or corrosion. Clean both contact surfaces with a dry cloth, reseat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light activates within 10 seconds of docking.
