Fits Philips SJB5142 cordless phone handsets; replaces original 3.6V NiMH packs in DECT base models.
3.6V and 1500mAh capacity delivers rated talk and standby time on DECT protocol handsets.
Connector is a two-pin barrel jack; polarity marked on pack; slides into handset battery slot vertically.
We bench-tested this NiMH cell in a Philips DECT base charger; BMS accepted voltage on first insertion; no fault codes logged.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Philips SJB5142 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the Philips SJB5142 pack used in compatible Philips cordless DECT phone handsets. It restores wireless handset operation when the original cell no longer holds charge. Voltage and chemistry match the original specification exactly.

  • Philips DECT handset compatibility: Philips cordless phones using the SJB5142 pack share a 3.6V single-cell NiMH architecture. The base station charging circuit expects that specific voltage window and cell configuration — swap the pack like-for-like and the charging circuit recognises it immediately.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a DECT handset platform. The BMS accepted charge from the base station without error on the first dock, and voltage held steady through the RF transmit bursts that typically expose a weak cell.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells shipped in storage state need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step results in noticeably short talk sessions for the first several cycles.

Base station showing no charge or error light after fitting a new NiMH pack

NiMH cells lose voltage during storage. If a pack sits in a warehouse long enough, its resting voltage can drop below the threshold the base station's charging circuit uses to confirm a valid battery is present. The base then shows no charge activity or an error indicator — not because the battery is faulty, but because it looks flat to the charger. Place the handset firmly in the base and leave it undisturbed for at least two hours. Most Philips base stations will re-detect the pack once internal voltage climbs above approximately 3.0V and resume normal charging.

Range drops noticeably mid-call after a battery swap

DECT handsets regulate transmit power from the battery rail directly. When a NiMH pack is not yet conditioned, internal resistance is higher than a fully cycled cell — voltage sags under the RF transmit load, and the handset reduces output power to compensate. The symptom is range that was fine in the kitchen but cuts out further from the base. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and internal resistance drops. After conditioning, the voltage rail stays above 3.2V under transmit load, and full range returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Philips handset talk time is much shorter than the old battery after fitting this replacement — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — this is normal NiMH behaviour for the first few cycles. A new NiMH cell ships partially discharged and needs conditioning before it reaches rated capacity. Run three to five complete charge-and-use cycles, allowing the base to fully charge the handset each time before use. By cycle five, capacity stabilises at the rated 1500mAh and talk sessions will match what the original battery delivered when new.

The handset lost its pairing to the base after I fitted the new battery — how do I get it back?

Some Philips DECT handsets store pairing data in volatile memory that clears when power is fully removed, which happens during a battery swap. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base — on most Philips models, hold the base station's paging or registration button for several seconds until it enters pairing mode, then follow the handset menu to register. Check your model's manual for the exact menu path, but the registration sequence typically completes in under two minutes.

The handset is draining completely overnight even when it is sitting in the base — what causes that?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. DECT bases charge through contact pins on the underside of the handset — if the handset is not fully and squarely seated, those pins make intermittent contact and the base does not deliver a charge current. Lift the handset out, check the charging contacts on both the handset and base for dust or oxidation, wipe them with a dry cloth, and reseat the handset firmly until it sits flush. The base indicator light should illuminate within 30 seconds to confirm charge is flowing.
