Fits Radio Shack cordless phone models using part number 960-1357 replacement battery.
3.6V and 1500mAh capacity restores full handset talk time and standby operation on DECT base stations.
Battery connector slides into handset slot with keyed orientation — no loose contact points or corrosion on terminals.
We bench tested this NiMH pack on a Radio Shack DECT base; BMS accepted the cell on first insertion without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Radio Shack 960-1357 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Radio Shack cordless phones using OEM part number 960-1357. It fits the handset directly, restoring talk and standby operation when the original pack can no longer hold a charge. Voltage and chemistry match the original spec exactly.

  • Radio Shack 960-1357 handset compatibility: These handsets share a common 3.6V NiMH cell arrangement with a standard connector and BMS that accepts the same charge profile — swapping this pack requires no reconfiguration of the base station.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a cordless phone handset platform. The BMS accepted charge input from the base cradle on the first attempt and held voltage within spec across the full discharge curve.
  • First-charge conditioning for NiMH: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones don't reach rated capacity on the first cycle — this slow initial charge lets the cells condition properly and deliver their full 1500mAh over subsequent cycles.

Base station charging error on a fresh NiMH pack

Radio Shack base stations use a voltage threshold to detect a handset battery before starting the charge cycle. A new NiMH pack that has been in storage can sit below that threshold — typically under 3.0V — and the base reads it as a fault rather than a dischargeable battery. This isn't a defective pack. Place the handset in the base anyway and leave it undisturbed for several hours; most bases will re-poll the battery and begin charging once the resting voltage climbs above the acceptance window.

Range dropping mid-call after a battery swap

DECT handsets regulate transmit power based on available voltage from the battery. When a NiMH pack hasn't been fully conditioned, its voltage sags under the RF load of an active call — the handset drops transmit power to compensate, and range shrinks noticeably. This is most common in the first three to five charge cycles. Run the pack through full charge-discharge cycles without interrupting mid-cycle, and range stabilises as the cells reach their rated 1500mAh output.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Radio Shack cordless phone talk time seems much shorter than the old battery — is the new pack faulty?

Most likely not. NiMH cordless phone batteries don't deliver full rated capacity until they've been through three to five complete charge-discharge cycles. Short talk time on cycles one and two is normal cell behaviour, not a defect. Run the handset down fully, then charge for the full 16-hour period — repeat this three times and capacity will climb toward the rated 1500mAh.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I fitted the new battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully interrupted, which happens during a battery swap. The fix is to re-register the handset manually — press the paging or find button on the base for five seconds while the handset is powered on and within one metre of the base. Refer to the handset label inside the battery compartment for the default PIN, which is usually 0000 on Radio Shack units.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This points to an intermittent contact between the handset and the base charging cradle rather than a battery fault. The base can only charge when the handset is fully seated — even a small tilt breaks the charge circuit while standby draw continues to pull the pack down. Clean the charging contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth, then check that the handset clicks fully into the base. Verify the base LED shows a charge indicator after reseating.
