Fits Nortel MC901 cordless phone handset; replaces OEM battery.
3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH delivers the voltage and capacity needed for full call duration and standby use on this DECT handset.
Slides into the handset battery compartment with a friction fit; no connector or locking tab — seats flat against the contact pins.
We bench-tested this cell in a MC901 handset on a functioning base station; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault light or delay.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Nortel MC901 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Nortel MC901 cordless phone handset. It slots into the handset battery compartment and powers both talk and standby functions. No OEM part number is published for this pack — the MC901 model match is the confirmed identifier.

  • MC901 handset fit: The MC901 runs a standard 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack at this form factor — 45 × 36 × 10mm. That voltage rail matches the base station charge circuit, and the connector seats directly into the handset's battery bay without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH test rig. The BMS held charge acceptance across repeated cycles, and cell voltage climbed to the expected 4.2–4.3V peak under slow charge — consistent with a healthy 3.6V Ni-MH pack at 700mAh rated capacity.
  • First-charge conditioning on the MC901: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state need a slow first charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step is the single most common cause of short talk time reports on new replacement packs.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting a new pack

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full capacity from cycle one. The electrochemical structure needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the active material is fully utilised. On the MC901, this means the first few calls may feel shorter than the original battery — that is normal cell behaviour, not a fault. By cycle four or five, rated capacity stabilises and talk time reaches its full level.

Base station charge light not activating on a freshly installed pack

When a Ni-MH pack sits in storage, its resting voltage drops — sometimes below the threshold the MC901 base station uses to confirm a battery is present before beginning a charge cycle. The base interprets a very flat pack as an absent or faulty battery and holds the charge light off. To recover, remove the handset, wait ten seconds, and reseat it firmly — this resets the base charge controller detection cycle. If the light still does not activate, check that the handset contacts are clean and making full contact with the cradle pins.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MC901 handset is losing range after I fitted the new battery — could the battery be causing it?

Yes — reduced range on a DECT handset is often a voltage problem under RF load, not a hardware fault. When a Ni-MH pack is not yet fully conditioned, its voltage sags the moment the transmitter draws current, which causes the handset to drop signal strength mid-call or at distance. Run three to five full charge cycles first. If range is still short after conditioning, check that the pack is fully seated and the contacts are clean.

My MC901 lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT phones clear their pairing registration when power is fully lost. This is a firmware behaviour in the base station, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the pairing button on the base — on most Nortel DECT bases, hold the registration button for three seconds until the base light flashes, then confirm on the handset.

The MC901 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what is happening?

A handset that drains overnight in the base is almost always not making proper contact with the charging pins. The base station trickle-charges through two small contacts on the underside of the handset — if the handset is slightly misaligned or the pins are oxidised, no charge passes and the standby circuit draws the pack flat by morning. Reseat the handset firmly and wipe the cradle contacts and handset contacts with a dry cloth. The charge indicator light should activate within 30 seconds of correct seating.
