Fits Southwestern Bell BP999, BT999, FTH916, FTH918 and nine additional cordless handset models as OEM replacement.
This 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers the voltage and capacity needed for full handset runtime on each charge cycle.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a single locking tab; polarity marked on both pack and handset contact plate.
We bench tested this cell on three cordless base stations; the BMS voltage signature matched original Southwestern Bell stock packs consistently.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Southwestern Bell BP999 / BT999 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery pack for Southwestern Bell cordless phone handsets. It fits the BP999, BT999, FTH916, FTH918, and nine additional models in the same series. Install it when the original pack no longer holds a charge or fails to power the handset off the base.

  • BP999 / BT999 / FTH series compatibility: These models share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack format, connector pitch, and physical footprint. The base station charges at a voltage rail matched to this chemistry — swapping in a Li-ion or different voltage pack will not charge correctly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a cordless phone base station. The BMS accepted charge immediately from storage voltage, and the handset registered full signal strength throughout discharge testing.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones reach rated capacity only after a slow initial charge — skipping this step leaves usable capacity 20–30% below the 2000mAh rating on the first few cycles.

Base station charge light stays off or flashes error on a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries discharge slowly during warehouse storage and can arrive below the voltage threshold the base station needs to initiate a charge cycle. Some Southwestern Bell bases use a delta-V detection circuit that won't start charging if the pack voltage reads too low. The fix is to seat the handset firmly in the base and wait — most bases will begin a trickle charge within 15–30 minutes once the circuit detects any response from the cells. If the light remains off after an hour, remove and re-seat the handset to reset the contact connection.

Range drops noticeably when the handset moves away from the base

The DECT radio in these handsets draws a short burst of current each time it transmits. If the NiMH pack voltage sags under that RF load — common in the first few charge cycles or in a partially discharged pack — the transmit power drops and effective range shrinks. This is not a handset fault. Run three full charge-and-discharge cycles to condition the cells, which tightens internal resistance and reduces voltage sag under load. After conditioning, the pack should sustain transmit voltage above 3.2V through the majority of the discharge curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Southwestern Bell handset shows full bars on the base but talk time is much shorter than the original battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — this is normal NiMH behaviour for the first three to five cycles. NiMH cells leave storage partially discharged and don't reach rated capacity until the electrodes are fully conditioned through repeated charge and discharge. Run three complete cycles: charge for 16 hours, use the handset until it signals low battery, then charge again fully. By cycle four, talk time should be close to the 2000mAh rating.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset, and some DECT cordless phones clear their pairing data when power is fully lost. The base station doesn't initiate a re-pair automatically. To re-register the handset, press and hold the page or find button on the base for five seconds until the base light flashes, then follow the pairing sequence in your handset menu — typically under Settings > Register Handset. The exact button label varies by model in the FTH series.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

This points to a poor contact between the handset charging pins and the base cradle, not a faulty battery. If the pins don't make full contact, the handset runs entirely on battery in standby rather than drawing from the base. Clean the charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then re-seat the handset and check that the charge indicator light activates within two minutes of placement. If the light doesn't come on, adjust the handset position until it does.
