Fits TAICOM GCL802 cordless phone handsets; replaces original 3.6V Ni-MH battery pack.
3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers standard talk time on DECT handsets; capacity matches OEM spec.
Battery seats vertically into handset slot with two-pin contact alignment; locking tab secures pack flush.
Bench testing showed normal BMS acceptance on base charger with clean contact cycle; voltage rise steady.
After installation, place handset in base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TAICOM GCL802 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the TAICOM GCL802 cordless phone handset. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless operation once the original cell no longer holds a useful charge. Capacity and voltage match the factory specification exactly.

  • GCL802 handset fit: The GCL802 handset runs a single Ni-MH cell at 3.6V to power the DECT radio, speaker, and display. Voltage must match — a lower-voltage pack causes the handset to drop signal or shut off mid-call under RF load.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the GCL802 base station charger and confirmed the BMS accepted the Ni-MH voltage curve without triggering a charge error. Full charge draw completed normally across five consecutive cycles.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before using it. Ni-MH cells in storage arrive partially discharged — a slow first charge is what brings the pack to its rated 600mAh capacity. Skipping this step means the first few calls will be cut short.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells require three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. A pack that feels weak in the first day of use is not faulty — the chemistry hasn't been conditioned yet. Each full cycle builds the usable capacity incrementally. By cycle five, the pack should deliver full talk time consistent with the 600mAh rating.

Base station charge light stays off or shows an error after battery swap

Storage discharges Ni-MH cells below the voltage threshold the base station uses to confirm a valid pack is seated. When the resting voltage is too low, the base reads the pack as absent or faulty and won't initiate a charge cycle. Fix this by confirming the battery contacts are clean and the handset is fully seated, then leave it undisturbed for at least 30 minutes — some base stations need a trickle current to bring the pack above the acceptance threshold before switching to normal charge mode. If the error persists, check that resting cell voltage is above 3.0V before re-seating.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GCL802 handset loses range and cuts out near the edges of the house — could the new battery be causing this?

Yes, this is a known effect with Ni-MH packs that haven't been fully conditioned. The DECT radio draws a sharp current spike during transmission, and a partially charged or unconditioned Ni-MH cell sags in voltage under that load, causing the handset to reduce transmit power or drop the call. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles first. After conditioning, the pack should hold above 3.4V under RF load and restore normal range.

The handset battery drained completely overnight even though it was sitting in the base — what went wrong?

This is a seating issue, not a battery fault. The GCL802 base station only charges when the handset contacts make firm connection with the base terminals. If the handset is slightly off-centre or the contacts have corrosion, the charge circuit never closes and the standby draw runs the pack flat by morning. Clean the gold contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, re-seat the handset firmly until you hear or feel it click into position, and confirm the charge indicator light activates.

My GCL802 stopped recognising the base station after I swapped the battery — it won't re-register no matter what I press.

Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing record when power is fully removed from the handset. Fitting a new battery counts as a full power cycle, and the handset's memory of the base station registration can be wiped. Re-register the handset manually: press and hold the registration button on the base station until the LED flashes, then navigate to the handset's menu and select "Register Handset" or "Find Base." The exact menu path is in the GCL802 user manual under the pairing or installation section.
