This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the NEC 1000 cordless phone handset. It matches the original pack's voltage and form factor, fitting the battery compartment without modification. Swap it in when the handset stops holding charge or shows a low-battery indicator during calls.

  • NEC 1000 handset fit: The NEC 1000 runs a single-cell Ni-MH pack at 3.6V nominal. This battery matches that voltage rail and physical footprint — 45 × 30 × 10mm — so the compartment cover closes correctly and the contacts align with the handset's charge terminals.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the bench. The cell voltage held steady across the discharge curve, and the handset's charging circuit accepted the pack without triggering a fault or error indicator on the base station.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before using it. NEC 1000 chargers trickle-charge at low current — the first slow charge is what brings a new Ni-MH cell to its rated 700mAh capacity. Pulling it off early cuts available talk time noticeably.

Why the NEC 1000 base station shows a charging error on a new Ni-MH pack

A new Ni-MH cell sitting in storage can drop to 3.0V or below. Some cordless phone base stations interpret that low resting voltage as a fault — the charge light flashes or the error indicator stays on. This is not a defective battery. The base needs the cell voltage to rise above its acceptance threshold before it switches to normal charge mode. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for at least two hours — the trickle circuit will bring the voltage up, and the base will resume normal charging from there.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few uses

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity straight out of the box. The first three to five full charge-and-use cycles are conditioning cycles — each one brings the cell closer to its rated 700mAh. If talk time feels short in the first week, that is normal behaviour, not a fault. Run the handset down until it beeps low, then return it to the base for a full charge — repeat this five times and capacity will stabilise at the rated level.

The NEC 1000 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT phones clear their pairing data when power is fully removed, which happens the moment you pull the old battery. The handset needs to re-register to the base. Place the handset in the base cradle, then hold the page or find button on the base for five to ten seconds until the handset display shows a registration or pairing prompt — follow the on-screen steps to re-link it.

The NEC 1000 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

This points to a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset is not fully clicked into the base, the charge contacts do not make a solid connection and the base does not deliver charge current. The handset runs entirely on battery in standby and drains by morning. Remove the handset, clean the metal charge contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, then re-seat the handset firmly until it sits flush.

The NEC 1000 range dropped noticeably after fitting the new battery — calls cut out further from the base than before.

Range drop after a battery swap usually means the new Ni-MH pack has not been fully conditioned yet. When cell voltage sags under RF transmit load, the handset reduces transmit power to protect the circuit — that shrinks the effective range. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles to bring the cell to its rated 700mAh, and voltage under load will stabilise. If range is still short after five cycles, check that the handset antenna is not blocked by a metal object near the base.
