Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Topdon UltraDiag Diagnostic Scan Tool — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PHD7657165)

This 3.8V, 10000mAh lithium-polymer battery is a direct replacement for the Topdon UltraDiag professional automotive diagnostic scanner. It fits the UltraDiag specifically — matched to the OEM part number PHD7657165. Voltage and capacity are verified against the original cell specification.

  • UltraDiag platform fit: The UltraDiag uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack at 3.8V nominal, which feeds the scanner's main processor, touchscreen, and wireless stack. The BMS handshake is tied to the OEM part number — swapping in a mismatched cell can cause the scanner to refuse to boot or report incorrect charge states.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge-discharge runs on the UltraDiag platform. The BMS accepted the pack without fault flags, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.35V, and the scanner completed vehicle system scans across the full discharge curve without voltage sag tripping a shutdown.
  • Pre-swap data export: Export all saved vehicle profiles and fault code histories before removing the original battery. The UltraDiag stores session data in RAM backed by the main battery — pulling the pack without exporting first will wipe any unsaved vehicle records permanently.

Why the UltraDiag refuses to boot after a battery swap

The UltraDiag's boot sequence checks cell voltage before initialising the main processor. If the replacement pack ships at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V — the scanner may sit below its boot threshold and show nothing on screen. This is not a faulty battery. Charge the new pack to at least 3.85V before attempting to power on. Connect to a USB-C charger for 30–45 minutes before the first boot attempt.

Wireless link dropping mid-diagnostic session

The UltraDiag's Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stack draws a short burst of current every time it polls a vehicle module. At low battery, the cell voltage sags during these bursts, and the wireless controller resets to protect itself — the connection drops without warning. This usually starts happening consistently below 3.72V under load. If wireless drops are increasing in frequency, check the battery indicator — even if it shows 20–30%, the cell may already be sagging under the RF draw. Replace the battery before it reaches that threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

The UltraDiag screen is dimming and flickering but the battery indicator still shows plenty of charge — what's happening?

The display driver on the UltraDiag is voltage-sensitive and starts throttling backlight power before the battery gauge registers as low. The gauge reads state-of-charge from a fuel gauge IC that lags behind real cell voltage under load — so the display reacts first. This is a sign the cell is capacity-faded and can no longer hold voltage under the combined draw of the screen and processor. Replace the battery and recalibrate by running a full charge to 4.35V before first use.

All my saved vehicle profiles disappeared after I swapped the battery — can they be recovered?

No — once the main battery is removed, RAM-backed storage on the UltraDiag loses power and the vehicle profile data is gone. There is no secondary coin cell or capacitor keeping that memory alive during a swap. Going forward, use the UltraDiag's export function to push all vehicle profiles to a USB drive or paired device before pulling the battery. That export step is the only safeguard.

The UltraDiag shows "charging" but the battery percentage hasn't moved after two hours — is the new battery defective?

Not necessarily. A deeply discharged Li-Polymer cell enters a trickle pre-charge phase where the BMS feeds it at low current until the cell recovers above roughly 3.0V — the percentage display won't move during this phase. Leave the scanner on charge for a full four hours on the first cycle. If the percentage still hasn't moved after four hours and the cell feels warm to the touch, disconnect and check the charging cable and port for continuity before concluding the cell is at fault.
