Fits Dual-Lite SEWLDGBE emergency exit lights, replacing OEM part 784H74.
4.8V, 800mAh Ni-Cd cell delivers full capacity across the rated test duration without voltage sag.
Connector plugs straight into the fixture battery slot with a friction fit — no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell on a Dual-Lite charge controller; BMS accepted the new pack within two charge cycles and held float voltage steady.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the complete rated duration — this lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before your next compliance audit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dual-Lite SEWLDGBE / SEWLDRBE Series — 4.8V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (784H74)

This is a 4.8V, 800mAh Ni-Cd replacement battery for Dual-Lite emergency lighting fixtures. It fits the SEWLDGBE, SEWLDGWE, SEWLDRBE, and SEWLDRWE series, along with three additional variants in that range. When mains power fails, this cell powers the fixture through its rated emergency illumination period.

  • SEWLD series compatibility: These fixtures share the same 4.8V cell format, connector pitch, and charge controller float voltage across the BE and WE suffix variants — both beige and white housings run the same internal circuit board and battery bay dimensions.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge-discharge sequence on the SEWLDGBE charge board. The BMS accepted charge without fault, the float voltage settled at the correct level, and the cell held load through the duration test window.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, press and hold the test button for the full rated duration. A freshly installed Ni-Cd cell from storage has not yet been conditioned to the fixture's charge controller — running one complete test cycle lets the controller register actual cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A new Ni-Cd cell shipped from a warehouse may have sat in partial discharge for months. The charge controller on the SEWLD board applies a trickle charge, not a conditioning cycle, so a stored cell can take 24–48 hours to reach full rated capacity. If the fixture is tested on the same day as replacement, the cell will not yet deliver its full 800mAh. Allow a minimum of 24 hours on charge before any compliance test, then verify float voltage reads at or above 5.4V across the battery terminals.

Charge indicator staying red after confirmed good installation

Some SEWLD variants latch a fault LED in firmware when the battery voltage drops below the controller's acceptance threshold during storage. Even with a correctly fitted new cell, the indicator stays red until the controller completes its own reset sequence. Remove mains power from the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore it — this forces the charge controller to re-initialise and re-read cell voltage. If the LED shifts to green within two minutes, the controller has accepted the new cell; if it remains red beyond 48 hours on charge, check connector seating and cell polarity against the bay markings.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light dims and cuts out a few minutes into the manual test — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily faulty — this is a conditioning issue. A Ni-Cd cell from storage has suppressed capacity until it has completed at least one full charge-discharge cycle on the actual fixture. The SEWLD charge board applies a float charge, so a cell installed and tested the same day will not yet have reached 800mAh. Allow 24 hours on mains charge before running the test again.

The fitting's fault LED is still on two days after I fitted the new battery and the cell is definitely seated correctly — what's happening?

The charge controller on some SEWLD variants will not auto-clear a latched fault even after accepting the new cell. Cut mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore it to force a controller re-initialisation. After power-up, the controller re-reads cell voltage from scratch — if the cell is sitting above 4.5V, the fault flag clears. If the LED stays red beyond another 48 hours, verify the connector is fully engaged and check cell polarity against the bay markings.

The old battery has visibly swelled inside the fitting — what caused that and can the new cell be fitted straight in?

Swelling in Ni-Cd emergency lighting cells is caused by years of continuous trickle charge, particularly in warm ceiling voids or enclosed enclosures where heat accelerates overcharge damage. Before fitting the replacement, inspect the battery bay contacts for corrosion or deformation from the swollen cell pressing against them. Clean any residue from the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and confirm the bay is mechanically clear before seating the new 784H74 cell. A damaged contact will prevent proper charge transfer even with a good cell in place.
