Fits ARSEL AK-468-1, AK-468-2, AK-468-3 emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part AK-58.
3.6V, 4000mAh Ni-CD cell delivers 14.4Wh for full-duration backup illumination during mains power loss.
Cylindrical Ni-CD pack installs vertically into the battery compartment with spring contacts at both ends.
We tested this cell on an AK-468-2 charge controller; BMS accepted the pack without fault codes within 2 hours.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the complete rated duration — this allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ARSEL AK-468-1 Series — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (AK-58)

This is a 3.6V, 4000mAh Ni-CD cell that replaces the AK-58 battery in ARSEL emergency lighting units. It fits the AK-468-1, AK-468-2, AK-468-3, AK581, and eight additional models in the same range. The cell slots into the fitting and connects to the existing charge controller without modification.

  • AK-468 and AK581 platform fit: These models share the same 3.6V single-cell architecture, connector format, and charge controller float voltage. One cell design covers the full range because the BMS handshake and trickle charge threshold are identical across all variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and applied a load discharge to verify BMS cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold. The cell held rated capacity and the protection circuit tripped within spec at the end of discharge.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new cell before the next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A Ni-CD cell that has been in storage for several months arrives with a resting voltage below the charge controller's float acceptance window. The controller reads this as a fault state rather than a dischargeable cell, so the charge LED stays red and the trickle charge circuit may not engage. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours — most ARSEL controllers will begin charging once the cell voltage climbs above approximately 3.0V through residual current. If the LED has not turned green after 24 hours, confirm mains supply to the fitting and check the cell connector seating.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell rarely delivers full rated capacity on the first test cycle. Ni-CD chemistry requires one complete charge and full-load discharge to reach rated capacity — a cell installed and tested the same day will often cut out before the test duration completes. Allow at least 24 hours of continuous mains charging before conducting a timed duration test. If the light still fails after a full conditioning cycle, verify the cell is 4000mAh and that the fitting's trickle charge voltage is within the 3.6V nominal range.

Frequently Asked Questions

The charge LED has been red for two days since I fitted the new battery — is the cell faulty?

Almost certainly not. Ni-CD cells discharged during storage can arrive with a resting voltage below the float acceptance threshold on ARSEL charge controllers, causing the circuit to withhold charge. Keep mains power applied continuously — most controllers begin charging once the cell recovers above approximately 3.0V through residual current. If the LED has not turned green after 48 hours, reseat the connector and confirm you have live mains at the fitting.

The light came on fine during the test but dimmed and shut off after a couple of minutes — why?

This is a first-cycle capacity issue, not a cell defect. A Ni-CD cell installed and immediately tested under full load has not completed a conditioning cycle, so it delivers well below rated capacity before the protection circuit cuts it off. Allow 24 hours of uninterrupted mains charging after installation, then run the duration test again. One full charge followed by a full-load discharge brings the cell to its rated 4000mAh output.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after the new battery passed a full duration test — how do I clear it?

Some ARSEL fittings latch a fault condition in the controller's memory and do not self-clear when the cell is replaced. The fix is a manual reset: isolate mains power to the fitting for 30 seconds, then restore power and hold the test button for three seconds. This forces the controller to re-poll the cell voltage and resets the fault register. If the fault LED persists after the reset, check whether the fitting logs fault codes — some models require a separate button sequence to clear a logged low-battery event.
