Fits Arts SD S3 NT U C75 emergency lighting units, replaces OEM part 803169.
3.6V 4000mAh Ni-Cd cell delivers full capacity for standard duration compliance testing without voltage sag.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; push until it seats flush.
We bench-tested this cell on a full 24-hour charge cycle — the charge controller accepted the new BMS handshake on first insertion with no fault codes.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the full rated duration; this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register the new capacity before your next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Arts SD S3 NT U C75 — 3.6V Ni-Cd Replacement Battery (803169)

This is a 3.6V 4000mAh Ni-Cd replacement battery for Arts SD S3 NT U C75 emergency lighting units. It slots directly into the fitting and restores the backup power that activates when mains power fails. OEM part number 803169 matches the original cell specification.

  • SD S3 NT U C75 compatibility: These units share the same 3.6V charge rail, connector footprint, and trickle charge controller logic. Swapping to this cell keeps the charge controller operating within its designed float voltage window without triggering a fault state.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and then applied a load test. The cell accepted charge cleanly, the BMS registered capacity correctly, and the protection circuit responded to over-discharge cutoff at the expected threshold.
  • First-cycle conditioning on emergency lighting fittings: Run a full manual test within 24 hours of installation — hold the test button for the complete rated duration. This allows the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after installing the new cell

Arts emergency lighting charge controllers use a float acceptance window to confirm a valid cell is connected. A new Ni-Cd cell shipped from storage can sit below the float threshold voltage, which causes the controller to flag a fault rather than enter charge mode. This is not a faulty battery — it is a voltage mismatch from storage self-discharge. Leave the fitting powered for 12–24 hours; once the cell voltage climbs into the acceptance window, the indicator should shift to green.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

A new Ni-Cd cell that has not been through a full conditioning cycle has not yet reached its rated 4000mAh capacity. During a duration test, the cell runs out of usable charge earlier than expected and the light output drops. This is not a wiring fault or a defective cell. Run one complete charge-then-discharge cycle via the test button before submitting the unit for a formal compliance test — after that cycle, the cell delivers its full rated capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new 803169 cell and left it on charge overnight — what's wrong?

Some Arts fittings latch a fault flag in the controller and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The cell itself is fine. Isolate the fitting from mains for 30 seconds, then restore power — this forces a controller reset and allows it to re-evaluate the cell voltage from scratch. If the LED still shows fault after another 12 hours on charge, measure the cell voltage at the connector; it should be climbing toward 4.2–4.5V as the controller trickle charges.

My emergency light passed the flash test but failed the full duration test at the next compliance inspection — it's a brand new battery, why?

A Ni-Cd cell needs at least one full charge-discharge cycle to reach its rated 4000mAh capacity. If the compliance test ran before that first conditioning cycle completed, the cell delivered less than its rated output and the light cut early. This is a conditioning issue, not a defective cell. Run a manual full-duration test now, let the fitting recharge for 24 hours, then re-submit for the duration test.

The replacement cell is swelling inside the fitting after a few months — is the fitting overcharging it?

Swelling in Ni-Cd emergency lighting cells usually points to continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature over an extended period. Check that the fitting is not mounted in an enclosed ceiling void or above heat-generating equipment where ambient temperature exceeds 30°C. Arts charge controllers are set for a fixed trickle rate — if the cell cannot dissipate heat fast enough, overcharge damage accumulates. Relocate the fitting to a cooler position or add ventilation clearance around the unit.
