Fits Fulham Hotspot 2 emergency light fixtures, replaces OEM part number FHSBATT8-AA.9.
9.6V, 800mAh nickel-cadmium pack delivers the capacity needed for full emergency duration lighting during mains power loss.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment with a single locking tab; orientation is marked on the housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a Hotspot 2 charge circuit — the BMS accepted full voltage within 4 hours and held stable float.
Run a manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by pressing the test button for the full rated duration; this confirms the new cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to recognize the new capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fulham Hotspot 2 — 9.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (FHSBATT8-AA.9)

This is a 9.6V, 800mAh nickel-cadmium battery for the Fulham Hotspot 2 emergency lighting unit. It replaces OEM part FHSBATT8-AA.9 inside the fixture's backup power compartment. When the original cell degrades, this restores the unit's ability to activate and sustain illumination during a mains failure.

  • Hotspot 2 cell pack compatibility: The Hotspot 2 charge controller expects a 9.6V Ni-CD cell pack at a specific float voltage range. Substituting a different chemistry or voltage disrupts the trickle charge circuit and triggers a permanent fault condition on the board.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and simulated a mains drop. The BMS accepted the charge without fault, and the unit switched to battery mode without delay or LED error.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting this cell. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity and clears any residual fault state before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting a new FHSBATT8-AA.9 cell

A new Ni-CD cell ships in a partially discharged state. The Hotspot 2 charge controller uses float voltage to confirm the cell is within its acceptance window — a freshly unpackaged cell often sits below that threshold. The red LED is the controller refusing to enter float mode, not a sign of a faulty battery. Leave the unit on mains power for 24 hours; the cell voltage will climb into the acceptance range and the indicator should shift to green.

Emergency light dims and cuts out partway through a duration test

This happens when a new cell has not completed a full conditioning cycle before the test is run. Ni-CD cells need at least one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach rated capacity — 800mAh is not available on the first activation straight out of the box. If the light dims mid-test, return it to mains for a full 24-hour charge, then re-run the test from a fully charged state. A cell that still cuts out early after conditioning has a genuine capacity fault and should be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hotspot 2 still shows a fault LED after I've fitted the new battery and confirmed the connections are solid — what's causing it?

Some Hotspot 2 units latch the fault LED in firmware and do not reset it automatically when a new cell is detected. The fix is a manual reset: disconnect mains power, wait 30 seconds, then restore power with the new cell fully connected. If the fault LED clears within a few minutes of power being restored, the fitting is functioning correctly and the latch was the only issue.

The charge indicator went green after 24 hours, but the light failed its annual duration test — how does a new battery fail so soon?

A single green indicator confirms the cell reached float voltage, but it does not confirm full capacity. Ni-CD cells need one complete charge-discharge cycle to condition the cell chemistry and deliver rated capacity under load. Run a manual test cycle — hold the test button for the full rated duration — then recharge for 24 hours before the formal compliance test. A cell that still fails the duration test after one conditioning cycle is below rated capacity and needs to be exchanged.

The old battery had been in the Hotspot 2 for years and the new cell looks slightly swollen after only a few months — what went wrong?

Continuous trickle charging at elevated ambient temperatures causes Ni-CD cells to swell over time. If the fitting is mounted near heat-generating equipment or in a poorly ventilated ceiling void, the cell runs hotter than the charge circuit expects, accelerating overcharge damage. Check the installation location against Fulham's ambient temperature rating for the Hotspot 2 — the fitting should not exceed 35°C at the battery compartment during normal operation. Relocating the fitting or improving ventilation around the housing stops the cycle from repeating.
