Fits Lite-Plan HRN/4 and HRN/4-K emergency lighting units; replaces OEM part numbers 3409, 621-0792, and 4 VTD 70 787296.
4.8V, 4000mAh nickel-cadmium battery delivers 19.2Wh to sustain full-brightness exit sign operation during mains power loss in commercial buildings.
Slide connector accepts standard Lite-Plan battery contact block; locking tab seats flush with housing to prevent accidental dislodgement during vibration or maintenance.
We bench-tested this cell in an HRN/4 fitter under full test-button load; the charge controller accepted the new BMS voltage within two cycles and showed green indicator by hour four.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for the rated duration—this allows the charge controller to register the new cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Lite-Plan HRN/4 Series — 4.8V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (3409)

This is a 4.8V, 4000mAh nickel-cadmium battery for the Lite-Plan HRN/4 and HRN/4-K emergency lighting units. It replaces OEM part numbers 3409, 621-0792, and 4 VTD 70 787296. The cell physically measures 130 × 62 × 32.90mm and slots directly into the existing battery bay.

  • HRN/4 and HRN/4-K compatibility: Both fittings share the same charge controller circuit and battery bay dimensions. The 4.8V nominal voltage matches the float charge rail on both variants, so the existing charge board does not need modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and load discharge on a Ni-CD compatible tester. The BMS accepted charge without thermal event, and the cell held voltage under simulated emergency load without dropping below the fitting's low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • First-cycle commissioning on emergency fittings: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before any scheduled compliance test runs against it.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

Ni-CD cells lose charge during storage, so a replacement cell often arrives below the charge controller's float acceptance window. The controller reads the low resting voltage as a fault condition and holds the fault state rather than entering normal charge mode. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge cycle before expecting the indicator to shift to green. If the LED stays red beyond 48 hours, measure the cell terminal voltage — it should read at least 5.4V fully charged at 4.8V nominal.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

A cell that has not completed at least one full conditioning cycle will not deliver its rated 4000mAh on the first test. The fitting draws steady current from a cell that has not yet reached full electrochemical capacity, and voltage sags early under load. This is not a faulty cell — it is an unconditioned one. Run the test button cycle once immediately after installation, allow a full 24-hour recharge, then run the formal compliance duration test as a second cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light passed the flash test but failed the full duration test after I fitted the new battery — what went wrong?

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell has not yet reached its rated 4000mAh capacity because it arrives partially discharged from storage. The fitting's load drains it faster than expected on the first duration run, causing an early cutoff. This is a conditioning issue, not a defective cell. Run one full manual test cycle, recharge for 24 hours, then repeat the duration test — the cell will deliver rated capacity on the second cycle.

My fitting's fault LED is still on after I confirmed the battery is seated correctly and the connectors are secure — is the fitting faulty?

Some Lite-Plan fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and do not auto-clear it when a new cell is detected. The controller needs to complete one charge cycle before it re-evaluates fault status. Disconnect mains power for 30 seconds, reconnect, and allow a full 24-hour charge — this forces the controller to re-initialise and clear the latched fault flag if the cell voltage is within range.

The old battery had visible swelling when I removed it — what caused that, and does it mean the fitting damaged the new cell too?

Swelling in Ni-CD cells is a sign of prolonged overcharge, typically from years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature inside the fitting. The charge controller applies a low-level maintenance current indefinitely, and if the fitting runs hot — common in ceiling-mounted units above lighting fixtures — gas builds inside the cell casing over time. Check the fitting's internal temperature after a few hours of normal operation; if it is noticeably warm to the touch, ensure there is adequate air gap around the fitting to prevent the same damage recurring on the replacement cell.
