Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fullham FHSBATT3-C3 — 3.6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 3000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for the Fullham FHSBATT3-C3 emergency lighting unit. It fits emergency exit signs and backup lighting systems used in commercial and industrial facilities. Capacity is 3000mAh (10.8Wh), matching the original cell specification.

  • FHSBATT3-C3 platform fit: The FHSBATT3-C3 charge controller runs a constant trickle current sized for Ni-CD chemistry. Substituting a different chemistry breaks the charge curve — this cell matches the voltage profile and internal resistance the controller expects.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge and load test on the FHSBATT3-C3 platform. The charge controller accepted the cell without fault, and the BMS logged a clean float transition at end-of-charge.
  • First-cycle conditioning on this fitting: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This forces a complete discharge-to-load cycle, which allows the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity before it logs any compliance test result.

Charge indicator staying red after new cell installation

A fresh Ni-CD cell from storage typically sits at a resting voltage below the float acceptance window the FHSBATT3-C3 controller uses to confirm a healthy pack. Until the cell voltage rises past that threshold through initial trickle charging, the controller holds the fault or charging indicator red. Leave the unit on mains power for at least 24 hours after installation. If the indicator has not shifted to green by 48 hours, measure the cell voltage at the connector — it should read above 3.3V to confirm current is flowing.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test

A cell that has not completed its first conditioning cycle will show full brightness initially, then drop off under sustained load — this is not a faulty cell. Ni-CD cells need one full charge-discharge cycle before the active material in the plates is fully formed and delivering rated capacity. Run the manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation to condition the cell before any scheduled compliance test. After conditioning, the cell should sustain rated output voltage above 3.0V throughout the full test duration.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light passed its flash test on installation but failed the full duration test a week later — did the battery arrive faulty?

Most likely not. A Ni-CD cell that skips its first conditioning cycle will sustain short activations but collapse under a full-duration load draw. The active plate material needs one complete charge-discharge cycle to reach rated capacity. Run a manual test cycle by holding the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell, then allow a full 24-hour recharge before the next compliance test.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I've confirmed the new cell is correctly installed and the unit is back on mains power — what's wrong?

On many FHSBATT3-C3 fittings, the fault LED latches and does not self-clear when the fault condition is resolved. The controller needs a manual reset — cycle the mains supply off for 10 seconds, then back on, or press and hold the test button for 3 seconds depending on your fitting revision. If the LED clears after reset and the cell is reading above 3.3V at the connector, the installation is good.

The old battery had swollen and was stuck in the fitting — what caused that, and will it happen again?

Swelling in Ni-CD emergency lighting cells is caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature — the cell generates internal gas pressure that the casing cannot vent fast enough. It is not a manufacturing defect in the cell itself. The risk increases significantly when the fitting is mounted near heat sources, in ceiling voids above insulation, or in poorly ventilated plant rooms. Check that the fitting location stays below 25°C in normal operation — this is the key factor in extending cell life.
