Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hochiki Firescape Luminaires — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (EL-BAT450)
This is a 7.4V, 700mAh lithium-polymer replacement for the Hochiki EL-BAT450 battery pack. It fits Firescape luminaires and exit signs that rely on an internal battery to maintain emergency illumination during mains failure. Voltage and cell format match the original pack exactly.
- Firescape luminaire fitment: Hochiki Firescape units use a compact Li-Polymer cell at 7.4V nominal to feed the driver circuit during mains outage. The flat pouch format and connector position must match the original — this cell meets both requirements. No adaptation is needed at the fitting.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a simulated mains-fail cycle. The charge controller accepted the new cell without fault, the BMS held voltage above the low-cell cutoff through the full load cycle, and the fitting returned to float charge cleanly afterward.
- First-cycle activation on emergency fittings: After installation, hold the test button for the full rated test duration within 24 hours. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity and clears any residual fault state before your next scheduled compliance test.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed Li-Polymer cell ships at partial state of charge — typically 40–60% — to comply with transport safety rules. If the fitting goes straight into a duration test without a full prior charge cycle, the cell will exhaust before the rated test window closes. The charge controller needs at least one full charge-to-float cycle before the cell can deliver its rated 5.18Wh under load. Allow 24 hours on mains before running any compliance duration test on a new cell.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
Some Hochiki Firescape charge controllers check incoming cell voltage before entering float mode. A cell stored for several months can drop below the acceptance window — typically under 6.8V — which keeps the controller in fault state rather than initiating charge. Reconnect the cell, wait two minutes, then disconnect and reconnect again; this re-triggers the controller's voltage-sense routine. If the cell reads above 6.8V on a multimeter and the fault LED persists, press and hold the test button for three seconds to manually reset the fault latch.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Hochiki Firescape fitting still shows a fault LED even though I've checked the new battery connection twice — what's wrong?
Some Firescape charge controllers latch a fault state from the previous degraded cell and don't auto-clear on new battery insertion. Disconnect the battery, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the controller to re-run its voltage-sense routine. If the fault LED stays on, hold the test button for three seconds to manually reset the latch. Confirm the new cell reads above 6.8V on a multimeter before concluding the controller itself is faulty.
The emergency light comes on fine during a test but starts dimming noticeably after a couple of minutes — is the new battery defective?
The cell is not defective — it shipped at partial charge and hasn't completed its first full conditioning cycle yet. A Li-Polymer cell at 50% state of charge delivers full voltage at light load but sags under the sustained current draw of the LED driver after a short period. Put the fitting back on mains for a full 24-hour charge before running another test. After one complete charge-to-float cycle, the cell will deliver its full 5.18Wh under continuous load.
The original EL-BAT450 looks swollen inside the fitting — what caused that and do I need to do anything beyond replacing the cell?
Pouch-format Li-Polymer cells swell when internal gas builds up from electrolyte breakdown, usually caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated temperature inside an enclosed luminaire housing. Before fitting the new cell, check the housing interior for any deformation or residue from the swollen pack — a compromised housing can trap heat and accelerate the same failure in the replacement. Wipe the contact points clean and ensure the new cell sits flat without compression. Dispose of the swollen cell at a designated Li-Polymer recycling point — do not puncture or place it in general waste.
