Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Neptolux N89 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (175-8002)
This 7.4V, 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Neptolux N89 emergency lighting unit. It fits the N89 fitting directly, matching the OEM voltage rail and connector. Also cross-references part number 175-1196C.
- N89 fitting compatibility: The N89 charge controller expects a 7.4V Li-ion cell with a specific float voltage ceiling. This replacement matches that voltage profile, so the controller recognises the new cell and enters its normal trickle charge cycle without triggering a fault state.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and a simulated mains-failure test. The BMS held the discharge curve flat across the load draw and cut off cleanly at the low-voltage threshold without nuisance tripping.
- First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new cell before the next scheduled compliance inspection.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
A cell that has been in storage for several months will sit below the float acceptance window the N89 controller uses to confirm a healthy battery. When the incoming voltage reads too low, the controller holds the fault or charging state rather than transitioning to green. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge before drawing any conclusions about the cell. If the indicator has not moved to green after 24 hours, check the terminal voltage directly — a healthy charged cell should read between 8.2V and 8.4V at rest.
Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after replacement
Dimming mid-test points to a cell that was not fully conditioned before the test was run. A new Li-ion cell straight from packaging does not always carry a full charge, and the N89 controller may not log enough charge time before the test is triggered. The result is a voltage sag under load that drops below the LED driver's regulation threshold, causing visible dimming. Allow a minimum 24-hour charge on mains after installation, then run the manual test — this gives the cell one complete charge cycle before it faces a full-duration load.

Frequently Asked Questions
The N89 is still showing a fault LED after I installed the new battery and it's been on mains power for hours — what's wrong?
Some N89 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and will not clear it automatically once the cause is resolved. After confirming the cell is seated correctly and the connector is fully engaged, locate the reset procedure in the fitting's service label — on most Neptolux units this is a short press of the test button while mains power is live. If the LED clears and then returns within the first charge cycle, check the terminal voltage on the new cell; it should read above 7.0V before connection.
The battery I removed looks swollen — is that a fitting problem or a cell problem?
Swelling in a Li-ion emergency light cell is almost always caused by years of continuous trickle charge at elevated temperature inside the fitting housing. The N89 is a sealed enclosure, and heat build-up over time pushes the cell into an overcharge condition that causes gas formation inside the casing. Inspect the charge circuit contacts for corrosion or residue from the swollen cell before fitting the replacement. If the housing shows heat discolouration around the charge board, have the fitting inspected before returning it to service.
The N89 passed its duration test the first week after battery replacement but failed the next scheduled test a month later — why?
A single successful test immediately after installation does not mean the cell has completed its conditioning. Li-ion cells in standby applications reach stable rated capacity after two or three full charge-discharge cycles, not one. If the second test was run before the cell had cycled fully, the available capacity on that draw would be lower than the rated figure. Run a manual test cycle now, recharge for 24 hours on mains, and run a second manual test — both should pass before the fitting is returned to the compliance schedule.
