Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Legrand BAEH ECO2 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (061089)
This is a 2.4V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for the Legrand BAEH ECO2 emergency luminaire and compatible fittings including 062614, 062624, and 062674. It restores the backup illumination function that activates automatically when mains power fails. Capacity is 1500mAh (3.6Wh), matching the original specification.
- BAEH ECO2 series compatibility: The 062614, 062624, and 062674 share the same 2.4V battery bay, charge controller circuit, and cell footprint (50.30 x 28.70 x 14.40mm) as the base BAEH ECO2 unit. One cell spec covers all four models.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through a full charge cycle and a load test at the rated current draw. The BMS accepted the cell without fault and held voltage above the cutoff threshold for the rated duration.
- First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell. This confirms the cell accepts load under real conditions and allows the charge controller to register the new capacity before any scheduled compliance test.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A fresh Ni-MH cell does not arrive at full capacity. Storage time and partial discharge during shipping mean the cell may hold only 60–70% of its rated 1500mAh on first activation. The charge controller in the BAEH ECO2 runs a float charge, which can take 24 hours or more to bring a depleted cell to full charge. Running a duration test before that window closes will produce a short result that does not reflect the cell's actual capacity. Allow a full 24-hour charge after installation before conducting any compliance or duration test.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The BAEH ECO2 charge controller checks incoming cell voltage before switching from fault or charge mode to the green ready state. A cell sitting at low voltage from storage — typically below 2.0V for a 2.4V Ni-MH pack — falls outside the float acceptance window and holds the indicator red. This is not a faulty cell or a faulty fitting. Leave the unit connected to mains for at least 12 hours; the controller will step through its pre-charge routine and transition to green once the cell voltage crosses the acceptance threshold, usually around 2.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BAEH ECO2 passed its monthly test fine but failed the full duration test — could the new battery be faulty?
Almost certainly not faulty. A short monthly test draws only a brief load and does not reveal a partially charged cell, but the full duration test exposes it immediately. Fresh Ni-MH cells need a complete 24-hour charge cycle before they reach rated capacity — the BAEH ECO2's float charger cannot rush this. Recharge for a full 24 hours from mains, then rerun the duration test.
The light dims noticeably after a few minutes during a test cycle — is the fitting overloading the cell?
The fitting load is within spec; the issue is cell conditioning, not the fitting. On the first one or two test cycles, an Ni-MH cell that has been in storage shows a voltage dip under sustained load because the internal resistance is temporarily elevated. This recovers after one or two full charge-discharge cycles. Run a full manual test, recharge for 24 hours, then test again — the dimming should not recur once the cell is conditioned.
The fitting still shows a fault LED even though the battery is correctly installed and connections are clean — what resets it?
Some BAEH ECO2 fittings latch the fault LED in firmware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. The reset procedure is to disconnect mains power, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect — this forces the charge controller to reinitialise and re-poll cell voltage from scratch. If the fault LED persists after a power cycle and 12 hours of charging, measure the cell voltage at the terminals; it should read at least 2.2V to confirm the controller has accepted the cell.
