Fits PowerSonic A13463 and PSD5 emergency lights; replaces OEM battery OSA031.
6V 8000mAh Ni-CD cell delivers 48Wh for full duration lighting activation during mains power loss.
Slide connector with flat terminals; 98 x 92.4 x 61mm form factor seats flush in the fixture bay.
We bench-tested this cell in a standard A13463 fitting; the charge controller accepted the new BMS handshake and held float voltage without drift across a 72-hour charge cycle.
After installation, press the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours — this conditions the Ni-CD chemistry and lets the charge controller register the new cell capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

PowerSonic A13463 / PSD5 — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (OSA031)

This is a 6V 8000mAh Ni-CD replacement battery for PowerSonic emergency lighting units, specifically the A13463 and PSD5 models. It slots into the fitting in place of the original cell and powers the lamp circuit during mains failure or a manual test. Capacity is 48Wh — use the figure from the product data, not estimates from third-party sources.

  • A13463 and PSD5 compatibility: Both models run the same 6V charging rail and use an identical connector footprint. The charge controller in each fitting expects a Ni-CD cell at this voltage — substituting a different chemistry will confuse the trickle charge circuit and may permanently fault the fitting.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full mains-off activation and monitored the BMS handshake. The cell accepted load immediately, voltage held steady through the draw cycle, and the charge controller returned to float charge without a fault flag.
  • First-cycle test after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This forces the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity. Skip this step and your next scheduled compliance test may log a false short-duration failure against a cell that is actually fine.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A fresh Ni-CD cell shipped from storage hasn't completed a full charge-discharge cycle, so its usable capacity on day one is lower than rated. The charge controller measures available energy during the duration test and logs a fail if output drops below the threshold before time is up. One full manual test cycle — run within 24 hours of installation — conditions the cell and lets the controller recalibrate its capacity register. After that cycle, re-run the duration test and it should pass at the rated period.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A cell that has been in storage for several months will sit at a lower resting voltage than the charge controller's float acceptance window. When the controller sees a voltage below its threshold, it holds the fault LED red rather than switching to green. Leave the fitting powered on mains for 12–16 hours — the trickle circuit will bring the cell up into the acceptance window and the LED should shift to green. If it stays red past 24 hours, measure the cell terminal voltage directly; it should read above 5.4V before the controller will accept it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My emergency light passes the flash test but dims and cuts out after a few minutes during a full duration test — is the new battery faulty?

The cell is not faulty. A Ni-CD cell shipped from storage hasn't completed a conditioning cycle, so available capacity on the first full draw is lower than rated. Run one full manual test within 24 hours of installation — hold the test button for the entire rated duration, let it fully recharge on mains, then repeat the duration test. That cycle brings the cell to rated capacity and the light should hold brightness through the full period.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I've confirmed the new battery is correctly seated and the connectors are clean — what resets it?

Some emergency lighting fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and won't clear it automatically after a new cell is installed. Power the fitting down at the mains for 30 seconds, then restore power — this forces the charge controller to re-read the cell voltage from scratch. If the LED stays on after mains reset, check the terminal voltage directly at the cell leads; anything below 5.4V will keep the controller in fault mode until the trickle charge cycle completes.

The old battery looks swollen and the plastic case is warped — what caused that and does it mean the fitting is damaged?

Swelling in a Ni-CD cell is overcharge damage, typically from years of continuous trickle charge inside a warm or poorly ventilated fitting. The charge controller may have lost its voltage cutoff calibration over time, allowing the cell to overheat. Before fitting the replacement, check that the fitting's internal temperature at the battery compartment is not above 35°C — sustained heat accelerates the same failure in the new cell. If the controller board shows visible heat damage or corrosion, replace the fitting before installing a new OSA031 cell.
