Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Deko-Light Ceiling Luminaire ALMAAZ Emergency Luminaire — 3.2V LiFePO4 Replacement Battery (DKL-930634)

This 3.2V 1800mAh LiFePO4 cell replaces the original backup battery in the Deko-Light ALMAAZ emergency ceiling luminaire. It fits directly into the luminaire's battery bay and connects to the onboard charge controller. Capacity is 1800mAh (5.76Wh), matching the original specification.

  • ALMAAZ luminaire compatibility: The ALMAAZ series uses a single LiFePO4 cell at 3.2V nominal. The charge controller is calibrated for LiFePO4 float voltage — substituting a NiMH or Li-ion cell of similar physical size will trigger a persistent fault condition because the float thresholds do not match.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a simulated mains-failure activation on compatible emergency lighting hardware. The BMS held load without voltage sag below the luminaire's cutoff threshold, and the charge controller transitioned from bulk charge to float without faults.
  • First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the luminaire's test button for the full rated duration. This allows the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity baseline before your next scheduled compliance inspection — skipping this step can cause a false fail on the duration test.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

A LiFePO4 cell stored at low state of charge can sit below the charge controller's float acceptance window — typically under 2.8V resting. When the controller sees a cell voltage in that range, it holds the fault/red state rather than entering bulk charge. The fix is to apply a short conditioning charge using a compatible external LiFePO4 charger set to 3.2V before installing the cell. Once resting voltage reaches approximately 3.0V, reinstall the cell and the controller should accept it and transition to bulk charge within a few minutes.

Emergency light dims after a few minutes during a duration test

Dimming partway through a test means cell voltage is dropping faster than rated — the luminaire's driver throttles output to stay within its input voltage window. On a freshly installed cell, this almost always means the cell has not completed its first full charge cycle from storage. A new LiFePO4 cell needs at least one complete charge-to-float cycle before it delivers full capacity under load. Allow the luminaire 24 hours on mains power after installation, then re-run the duration test. If dimming persists after a confirmed full charge, check the resting voltage — it should sit between 3.2V and 3.3V before the test begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light passed its duration test before I swapped the battery — now it fails. What changed?

A new LiFePO4 cell ships at partial state of charge and needs one full charge cycle before it delivers its rated capacity under load. The charge controller may also need to relearn the cell's capacity baseline, which only happens after the first complete bulk-to-float cycle. Leave the fitting on mains power for 24 hours, then run the test again using the test button for the full rated period. If it still fails after a confirmed full charge, check that cell resting voltage is between 3.2V and 3.3V before triggering the test.

The fitting's fault LED is still on after I installed the new cell and confirmed the connections are solid. How do I clear it?

Some emergency luminaire controllers latch a fault flag in firmware and do not self-clear when a new cell is detected — the fault has to be manually reset. On the ALMAAZ fitting, hold the test button for approximately 10 seconds with mains power present; this triggers a controller reset on most units. If the LED stays on after the reset attempt, check that the cell resting voltage is above 3.0V — a cell below that threshold keeps the controller in fault state regardless of a reset. Restore cell voltage with an external LiFePO4 charger set to 3.2V, then repeat the reset step.

The old battery in my ALMAAZ fitting looks swollen. Is that a cell failure or a fitting problem?

Swelling in a LiFePO4 cell inside an emergency luminaire almost always points to years of continuous trickle charge at elevated temperature inside the fitting enclosure — not a defective cell. The charge controller applies a float charge indefinitely when mains power is present, and if the fitting runs warm due to its location or ambient temperature, that sustained low-level overcharge causes gas buildup inside the cell casing. When fitting the replacement, check that the luminaire's enclosure ventilation slots are clear and that the ambient temperature at the installation point stays below the fitting's rated maximum. Dispose of the swollen cell through a certified battery recycling point — do not compress or puncture it.
