Fits Typhoon MyGuide 4500, MyGuide 4500 SD, and MyGuide 4500 SD GPS units with 3.7V lithium-polymer chemistry.
3.7V at 1400mAh delivers 5.18Wh — enough capacity to restore full navigation runtime on this portable GPS unit.
Connector uses a proprietary two-pin harness; insert straight into the battery slot with the contact edge facing the PCB latch.
We bench-tested this cell in a MyGuide 4500 cold-start unit; BMS accepted the charge within two cycles with no fault indicators.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire satellite fix before navigation — cold starts require 5–10 minutes for initial lock after power interruption.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Typhoon MyGuide 4500 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1400mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Typhoon MyGuide 4500, MyGuide 4500 SD, and MyGuide 4500 SD GPS portable navigation units. It fits the slim 66.25 × 50.85 × 3.96mm battery cavity and connects directly to the device's onboard power management circuit. Capacity figures are taken from the product specification — 1400mAh / 5.18Wh.

  • MyGuide 4500 series fit: The 4500, 4500 SD, and 4500 SD GPS share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and power rail voltage. One cell covers all three variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the navigation board and confirmed the BMS handshake completed correctly — no false low-battery warnings and no premature cutoff at the GPS receiver load.
  • Cold-start after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before your first drive. The GPS performs a full cold start after any complete power loss — first satellite acquisition can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping as the battery level falls

Some GPS units, including portable automotive navigators, reduce receiver sensitivity when the battery voltage drops below a set threshold. The chipset draws less current to protect the remaining charge, and the receiver becomes less aggressive about tracking weak satellite signals. The result is wider position error or brief signal loss on routes with overhead obstructions. Keeping the cell above 3.5V under load maintains full receiver sensitivity.

MyGuide 4500 shutting off without a low-battery warning

After a battery swap, the device's fuel gauge IC has no learned capacity baseline — it is reading cell voltage rather than a calibrated charge curve. The displayed indicator can still show two bars when the cell is close to the BMS cutoff voltage of approximately 3.0V. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles and the indicator recalibrates against actual cell behaviour. After that, the warning appears at the correct threshold instead of at the last moment.

Frequently Asked Questions

My saved routes and POIs disappeared after I put in the new battery — is that normal?

Yes. The MyGuide 4500 stores some route and POI data in RAM that requires continuous battery power to retain. A full power interruption — which happens during a battery swap — flushes that volatile memory. Saved favourites stored in flash memory survive the swap, but any routes loaded into active RAM do not. Re-import your routes from the SD card or re-enter them after the first power-on.

The GPS took nearly 10 minutes to find satellites after the battery change — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. When the battery is fully removed, the device loses the cached almanac and ephemeris data it uses for a fast satellite fix. It has to perform a cold start, which means downloading fresh satellite position data from scratch — that takes 5–10 minutes with clear sky view. Every subsequent power-on after that will lock within a minute as long as the new battery keeps that data alive between sessions.

The MyGuide 4500 drains much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting on — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously, which is the highest-load state for this device. The display backlight alone accounts for a significant share of current draw — dropping brightness one or two steps reduces total draw noticeably. Standby with the screen dimmed or off cuts the load to the receiver only. If drain still seems excessive during navigation, check that the screen brightness is not set to maximum.
