Fits Zycast SG-278 GPS navigator; replaces OEM battery for SG-278 models.
3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 4.44Wh for extended navigation without route loss.
Connector slides into SG-278 battery slot; physical fit confirmed on standard navigator housing.
We bench-tested this cell through five charge cycles; BMS settled after second cycle with clean voltage regulation.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow satellite acquisition before active navigation — cold start after power interruption requires 5–10 minutes for first fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zycast SG-278 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion cell is a direct replacement for the Zycast SG-278 portable GPS navigator. It fits the SG-278 specifically — confirm your model before ordering. Capacity figure comes from product data, not estimated from third-party sources.

  • SG-278 fit: The SG-278 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion architecture. This replacement matches that voltage rail and the physical footprint — 53.20 × 35.30 × 7.10mm — so the cell seats correctly in the battery bay without forcing the cover.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low voltage and accepted a standard CC/CV charge profile without triggering protection flags.
  • Cold-start tip after fitting: After installing this cell, take the SG-278 outdoors with a clear sky view and power it on before driving anywhere. GPS units perform a full cold start after a complete power interruption — first satellite acquisition can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent locks are much faster once almanac data is refreshed.

GPS accuracy reduced when battery level drops below 20%

Some GPS navigators, including compact single-cell units like the SG-278, reduce RF receiver sensitivity as battery voltage sags toward the low-cutoff threshold. The GPS chipset draws less power in this state, but tracking accuracy and satellite count both drop as a result. You may notice position drift or a reduced fix quality icon on screen. Keeping the cell above 3.6V under load avoids this threshold — charge the unit before extended navigation sessions.

SG-278 shuts off without warning instead of showing a low-battery alert

The battery gauge in the SG-278 reads state of charge by tracking voltage, not a fuel gauge IC. When a new cell is fitted, the device has no calibration baseline and may cut power abruptly before the on-screen indicator reaches one bar. This is a calibration gap, not a fault with the cell. Run two full charge and discharge cycles through normal navigation use — the voltage curve the device learns during those cycles brings the low-battery warning back into step with actual remaining charge. After two cycles, the alert should appear at roughly 3.5V before shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SG-278 lost all my saved routes and POIs after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and it is a known behaviour on GPS navigators that store route and POI data in battery-backed RAM rather than flash memory. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data clears. Routes stored to an SD card or internal flash survive the swap — only RAM-held data is lost. Check whether your SG-278 has a "Save to card" option in the route menu and use it before any future battery work.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged during the swap?

Nothing is damaged. A full power interruption forces the GPS receiver into a cold start, which means it has to download fresh almanac and ephemeris data from satellites from scratch. That process takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the receiver has rebuilt its satellite database, subsequent locks drop back to under a minute. Leave the device stationary outside after first power-on and do not start navigating until the fix icon shows full signal.

Active navigation drains the SG-278 much faster than standby — why is this cell depleting so quickly?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, display backlight, and map rendering simultaneously — this is the highest draw state the device sees. Standby or power-off drops consumption to near zero. The 1200mAh capacity of this cell matches the original specification, so if drain feels excessive compared to a new original battery, check display brightness first — maximum brightness on a compact navigator accounts for a significant share of total draw. Lower brightness one or two steps and monitor whether the depletion rate improves before drawing any conclusions about cell capacity.
